On the morning of April 26, the People's Council of Quang Nam province held its 31st session, including the content of the Resolution approving the policy of arranging administrative units at the provincial and commune levels...
Previously, the Standing Committee of the Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee passed a Resolution (2nd time) to reduce 10 more communes and wards in the administrative arrangement project compared to the original plan - from 88 to 78 units, reaching a reduction rate of 66.52%.
According to this plan, Hoi An city is divided into 4 new wards, with the names: Hoi An ward, Hoi An Dong ward, Hoi An Tay ward and Tan Hiep commune (Cu Lao Cham island).
From April 21 to 23, Quang Nam province will conduct a second public consultation on the names of administrative units after the reorganization.
In recent days, public opinion and Hoi An voters have continued to have many exciting opinions about the name and administrative boundaries.
Many Hoi An voters recommend keeping traditional names, imbued with local cultural identity such as: Pho Co ward - Hoi An, Thanh Chau ward - Hoi An, Thanh Ha ward - Hoi An, Tan Hiep commune - Hoi An.
However, the majority of Hoi An residents enthusiastically suggested that a new Hoi An ward (including all 4 wards mentioned above) should be established to have room for development, to keep the Hoi An brand - which is an international destination, a World Cultural Heritage, a World Biosphere Reserve, a Creative City...
Mr. Phung Tan Dong, former officer of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Hoi An, said that "losing the name" not only causes difficulties in international transactions but also increases the pride in Hoi An culture in the people's minds.
According to Mr. Nguyen Su, former Secretary of Hoi An, in addition to concerns about brand identity, development space ... If "broken down" Hoi An, the ancient urban area will face many difficulties because there is no traffic, water and waste connection. Currently, the Center for Culture, Sports and Tourism and the city authorities are "conductors", operating most of the activities of life, culture, intangible cultural activities, tourism in Hoi An and the conservation and promotion of the values of the monument population. Later, no longer the city, Hoi An was broken down into many wards, it was very worrying.
Mr. Su added: Hoi An City according to the arrangement has separated Tan Hiep island commune (Cu Lao Cham) with an area of over 16km2, nearly 1.4 total area of the whole city.
The new Hoi An (if the remaining wards are kept) is also approximately 40km2, with more than 100,000 people, equivalent to the (new) Ngu Hanh Son ward of Da Nang. With this method, Sa Dec City, Dong Thap City... almost still retain their old urban areas.
For compact, densely populated urban areas with larger areas than rural communes, it is also completely favorable, because the infrastructure, including information technology, is very good. Towns and cities are also able to adapt, most of them have applied information technology in life, in state administrative management...
Currently, these recommendations are being submitted to the meeting of the People's Council of Quang Nam province.
