Mr. Truong Son Lam will hold the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors of MobiFone Telecommunications Corporation from June 12, 2025, replacing Mr. Nguyen Hong Hien - who has just been appointed as Director of the Department of Science, Technology, Innovation and Digital Transformation of the Central Policy and Strategy Department.
Before joining MobiFone, Mr. Truong Son Lam was the Director of Ben Tre Provincial Police from October 2022.
Major General Truong Son Lam was born in 1972, hometown of Hoang Hoa district, Thanh Hoa province, is an Information Technology Engineer at Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Doctor of Law, People's Security Academy, and Senior Political Theory.
The new Chairman of MobiFone also worked at the General Department of Security. Mr. Truong Son Lam used to be Deputy Director of the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention.
At the end of February 2025, the Ministry of Public Security received the right to represent the State capital owner at MobiFone from the State Capital Management Committee at Enterprises. The selection of MobiFone to the Ministry of Public Security is considered to create conditions for them to promote many strengths, especially in ensuring security, information security, and infrastructure development in the digital era.
Recently, the Ministry of Public Security has also mobilized a number of personnel in the industry to become leaders at this network. Colonel Le Trang Hung - Head of the Department of Administrative Reform and Administrative Procedures Control (Department of Legal Affairs and Administrative and Judicial Reform) - was appointed to the position of Head of MobiFone's Control Board in April. In May, the Ministry of Public Security also transferred Lieutenant Colonel Le Canh Duy - Deputy General Director of Gtel - to join the Board of Members of MobiFone.
MobiFone's predecessor is Mobile Information Company (VMS), established in 1993. This is also the first mobile telecommunications network operator in Vietnam. In December 2014, this enterprise was converted into MobiFone Telecommunications Corporation.
On February 28, 2025, MobiFone Telecommunications Corporation was handed over from the State Capital Management Committee at Enterprises to the Ministry of Public Security.
