Journey of gratitude on the land of fire Quang Tri

Central Vietnam - a harsh land of sun, wind and storms, is also a place that preserves the most tragic pages of the nation's history in the national resistance wars. On that land, every river, hill, every inch of land seems to still be soaked in the blood of the children of Vietnam who fell for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.

Every July comes - the month of gratitude and gratitude to heroic martyrs, returning to the "red addresses" in the Central region, we welcome returning groups of people with respect. Not only to offer incense to commemorate heroic martyrs, but also to remind everyone today that peace and independence are exchanged for so much blood and bones of previous generations.

Continuing the tradition, towards the 79th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs' Day (July 27, 1947 - July 27, 2026) and the 66th anniversary of the establishment of the People's Procuracy sector (July 26, 1960 - July 26, 2026), on July 18, 2026, the delegation of the Supreme People's Procuracy led by Comrade Tran Hai Quan, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, Deputy Procurator, along with leaders of departments and agencies under the Supreme People's Procuracy: Comrade Nguyen Duc Bang, Head of the Investigation Agency; Tran Hung Binh, Director of Department 4; Lai Anh Tuan, Director of Department 8; Nguyen Manh Hung, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Bao Ve Phap Luat Newspaper, along with leaders and officials of units implementing the "Journey of Gratitude - Continuing the Tradition - Steadfastly For Justice" to the Source in the Central region.

This is an activity to show gratitude to heroic martyrs, a gratitude journey of profound significance in traditional education, fostering the morality of "When drinking water, remember the source", "Gratitude". Participating in the delegation were leaders of the People's Procuracy of Quang Tri province and Hue City.

Silent in the Old City

The first stop of the delegation was the National Special Relic Quang Tri Citadel - a place marking 81 days and nights of heroic fighting in the fiery summer of 1972.

Comrade Tran Hai Quan, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, Deputy Director of the Supreme People's Procuracy and comrades in the delegation offer incense at Quang Tri Citadel.

When the delegation just set foot in the Ancient Citadel, a gentle cool summer breeze brushed through, as if soothing the sacred space of the heroic land. In the deep, poignant melody of the song Young Grass of the Ancient Citadel, the members of the delegation respectfully offered flowers, lit incense sticks, expressed deep gratitude and commemorated the heroic martyrs who dedicated their youth and blood to the independence and freedom of the nation.

Amidst the green of grass and trees today, it is hard to imagine that this place was once a "bomb pocket" of war. But under that peaceful soil, there are still so many soldiers who cannot return. The peach blood of thousands of Vietnamese children has merged into the hearts of mother earth, turning into young grass, into lush green trees, for the Fatherland to bloom in peace.

According to each touching explanation of the young female guide, the story of 81 days and nights of protecting the Citadel gradually appears. From June 28 to September 16, 1972, this place witnessed one of the fiercest battles in the history of the Vietnam People's Army. Tens of thousands of officers and soldiers fought and bravely sacrificed to protect every inch of homeland land, for the independence, unity and territorial integrity of the Fatherland.

In a solemn atmosphere, members of the working delegation of the Supreme People's Procuracy respectfully bowed their heads in silence, respectfully offering incense to commemorate those who have forever lain here.

Incense sticks on Road 9 Cemetery and Truong Son Cemetery

Leaving Quang Tri Citadel, the delegation went to the National Martyrs' Cemetery of Road 9 - the resting place of more than ten thousand heroic martyrs who fought and sacrificed on the Road 9 battlefield, Quang Tri and friendly Laos.

Before the spirits of the heroic martyrs, each member of the delegation silently bowed their heads in remembrance. Wreaths and incense sticks were offered with all gratitude to those who dedicated their youth and whole lives for the country to have a day of reunification.

Next, the delegation arrived at Truong Son National Martyrs' Cemetery - where more than 10,000 martyrs are resting, mostly Truong Son cadres and soldiers, military transport soldiers and youth volunteers who fell on the legendary Ho Chi Minh trail.

Amidst the pine trees chirping in the wind, the cemetery space is so quiet that it is heartbreaking. At the Central Memorial and each martyr's grave, the members of the delegation respectfully lit each incense stick. Each incense smoke rises as a thank you to those who have transformed into the country's mountains and rivers.

That is also a reminder to those who are living about the responsibility of maintaining peace, building and protecting the Fatherland; living worthy of the sacrifices that previous generations have exchanged with blood and bones.

Tam Co Cave - where twenties turn into immortality

Amidst the vast green Truong Son mountains, Tam Co Cave quietly appears as a witness to history. This place marks the tragic sacrifice of eight eighteen and twenty-year-old youth volunteers and many officers and soldiers who fell in the anti-American resistance war for national salvation.

Comrade Tran Hai Quan, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, Deputy Head of the Supreme People's Procuracy and comrades in the delegation offer incense and flowers at Tam Co Cave.

On the 20 Quyet Thang road in the past, with the slogan "Everything for the front lines, everything for the beloved South", tens of thousands of soldiers, youth volunteers, and frontline civilian laborers day and night opened roads, filled bomb craters, and ensured that the traffic artery was never cut off. In the midst of bombs and bullets, so many people left their youth in the Truong Son great forest so that convoys of vehicles still followed each other to the front lines.

Among them, the story of eight youth volunteers forever remaining in Tam Co Cave has become an immortal symbol of revolutionary heroism. They left when they were very young, carrying unfinished dreams, so that the country could one day unify, and the country would be connected.

In the sacred space, the working delegation respectfully offered incense and observed a minute of silence to commemorate the heroic martyrs. Before the spirits of the deceased, each member of the delegation was stunned when thinking about the great sacrifices of previous generations. The fragrant incense sticks are not only words of gratitude but also a promise to continue to preserve and spread the sacred historical values of the nation.

Nursing Cave: Red address to show gratitude to heroic generations

Nurse's Cave is located at km 18 of Road 20 Quyet Thang, Thuong Trach commune, Quang Tri province. This is a place to worship the spirit of heroic martyr nurse Nguyen Thi Sang and her C211 comrades.

Martyr Nguyen Thi Sang was born in 1944 in Phu Tho hamlet, Phu Son, Thanh Hoa town (now Hac Thanh ward, Thanh Hoa province) in a poor farming family, with 03 sisters. Her father died early, her mother was often sick, at the age of 12, she had to work hard to raise 2 younger sisters to study.

As a female militia soldier of Thanh Hoa town, in the summer of 1971, along with generations of young people at that time, following the sacred call of the Fatherland, she wrote a voluntary application to join the Youth Volunteer force on the Quang Binh fire line to directly participate in combat and open the Truong Son road.

Comrade Tran Hai Quan, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, Deputy Director of the Supreme People's Procuracy, offers incense and flowers at Nursing Cave.

She and 185 Youth Volunteers of Thanh Hoa town were assigned to Company C211, N75, Construction Board 67, in charge of the road section from km 17 to km 21, Road 20 Quyet Thang and were assigned the task of being a nurse for the company. As a nurse, she participated in all jobs, cooking rice, collecting firewood, pushing three-wheeled vehicles, leveling road surfaces,... no matter what job, she always excellently completed the assigned tasks.

Throughout the period from 1971 to 1973, the section from km 17 to 21 on Route 20 Quyet Thang with Ba Thang slope was a key point for fierce attacks by US aircraft; the enemy dropped thousands of tons of bombs and bullets on this section of road to cut off traffic arteries to support the Southern battlefield.

Under the rain of bombs and bullets of the enemy, the Youth Volunteer Company C211 steadfastly stayed on the road with the spirit of "Living by bridge and road, dying bravely and courageously", maintaining traffic routes for transport cars and artillery trucks to safely cross key points. And in the fierce B52 bombing on the evening of June 18, 1972, many Youth Volunteer soldiers of Company C211 fell, including martyr Nguyen Thi Sang. The sacrifice of her and her comrades became an immortal symbol of the spirit of "Determined to die for the Fatherland, determined to live".

Comrade Tran Hai Quan, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, Deputy Director of the Supreme People's Procuracy, and the working delegation comrades offer incense at the Temple of the Gianh ferry terminal historical relic site.

Leaving Y Ta Cave, the delegation continued to offer incense and flowers at the Gianh ferry wharf historical site - a "fire coordinate" on the North-South strategic traffic route during the anti-American resistance years. This place once played a particularly important role in ensuring traffic flow to support the Southern battlefield.

Under the rain of bombs and bullets, the army forces, youth volunteers and people still stubbornly clung to the wharf, keeping ferries constantly crossing the river, contributing to the victory of the cause of national liberation. Today, Gianh ferry wharf is a red address for revolutionary tradition education, reminding of the great sacrifices and contributions of previous generations.

Comrade Tran Hai Quan, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, Deputy Chief Procurator of the Supreme People's Procuracy offers incense at National Cemetery on Road 9.

Comrade Tran Hai Quan, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, Deputy Director of the Supreme People's Procuracy, expressed his deep gratitude to the heroic martyrs who bravely sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland. "The sacrifice of the comrades is a noble symbol of revolutionary heroism, an invaluable spiritual asset for today's and future generations to continue to learn and follow. These values always remind us to cherish peace, preserve revolutionary achievements, unite, and strive to build the country and the People's Procuracy sector to become increasingly developed.

The Journey of Gratitude to Heroes and Martyrs is not only an annual gratitude activity of People's Procuracy officials, but also a journey back to historical roots, so that each official and Prosecutor can further understand the value of peace, cultivate patriotism, revolutionary ideals and continue to spread the sacred morality of "When drinking water, remember the source" of the Vietnamese nation.

The working delegation took souvenir photos at Quang Tri Citadel.

For those who work for the Law Protection Newspaper, each destination is a milestone of history, each incense stick is a deep gratitude sent to heroic martyrs and those who dedicated their lives to the Fatherland, it is also a reminder to each reporter to continue to preserve historical memories with an honest and humane pen; contributing to spreading the immortal values of previous generations to today's and future readers.
