On the morning of May 7, the 21st session (special session) of the People's Council of Vinh City, term XXII, 2021 - 2026, was held to consider and agree on the new names for commune-level administrative units after the arrangement and merger in 2025.
Based on the report of the City People's Committee and the verification of the Legal Department, the City People's Council. Vinh voted to approve the official names of 6 wards after the merger, including: Truong Vinh, Thanh Vinh, Vinh Hung, Vinh Phu, Vinh Loc and Cua Lo.
Accordingly, 5 wards were renamed: Vinh 1 ward → Truong Vinh; Vinh 2 ward → Thanh Vinh; Vinh 3 ward → Vinh Hung; Vinh 4 ward → Vinh Phu; Vinh 5 ward → Vinh Loc.
Cua Lo ward will keep its name under Resolution No. 24 dated April 25, 2025.
The renaming was carried out in accordance with the process, collecting public opinions. As a result, 107,745/110,211 households participated in collecting opinions (reaching a rate of 97.76%), of which 93.11% of voters agreed with the name change plan. The vote at the People's Council at the commune level reached a consensus rate of 96.19%.
Speaking at the meeting, Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the City People's Council. Vinh Phan Duc Dong emphasized that the renaming not only ensures administrative security but also aims to honor the cultural, historical and place values associated with Vinh city.
At the same time, the Secretary of the Vinh City Party Committee requested agencies and units to urgently complete the dossier, implement it on schedule, while strengthening propaganda, creating social consensus and promptly resolving related policies and regimes.
