On September 10, Lieutenant General Pham Duc Duyen - Party Secretary and Political Commissar of Military Region 2 - provided information on rescue work and installation of pontoon bridges at the foot of Phong Chau bridge (Phu Tho).
Lieutenant General Pham Duc Duyen said that, following the direction of the Government leaders, the Ministry of National Defense has directed the Engineering Corps to prepare and survey the flow to install pontoon bridges when conditions permit to ensure travel and daily activities for people.
"This work is being carried out with the highest spirit of effort and responsibility, working day and night, even on holidays, to soon complete the installation of the pontoon bridge," said Lieutenant General Pham Duc Duyen.
On September 9, the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army issued Official Dispatch No. 3923/CD-TM to units on focusing on overcoming the consequences of the collapse of Phong Chau bridge (Phu Tho province) and responding to and overcoming the consequences of floods, landslides, flash floods, and landslides in the midland mountainous provinces of the North caused by rain and floods.
The General Staff requested Military Regions 1, 2, and 3 to direct the Military Commands of provinces and cities to proactively advise local authorities, inspect and review key areas at risk of flash floods, landslides, riverbank and stream bank landslides, and low-lying areas, and support people to evacuate from dangerous areas.
At the same time, proactively coordinate with units stationed in the area to mobilize forces and means to help local authorities and people overcome consequences and search and rescue, proactively report to the Ministry of National Defense to export food and food reserves ready for combat to ensure for local people, not letting people go hungry or cold.
The Military Region 2 Command presides over and coordinates with the forces and the Engineering Corps of Phu Tho province to urgently deploy rescue work for the victims and fix the collapse of the Phong Chau bridge over the Thao River, Phu Tho province, when weather and hydrological conditions permit.
The General Staff also requested the Air Defense - Air Force Command and the 18th Army Corps to prepare forces and vehicles to be ready to mobilize to carry out missions when ordered.
The 12th Corps Command, the military branches and the 11th and 12th Corps proactively used forces and means to participate in rescue and relief work to help people overcome the consequences of floods in the area and were ready to mobilize to carry out tasks when ordered by the Ministry.
