On November 26, the National Assembly listened to Government Inspector General Doan Hong Phong present a summary report on anti-corruption work in 2024.
Government Inspector General Doan Hong Phong said that through inspection, many violations were discovered, and 7,629 groups and 8,714 individuals were recommended for administrative handling; 372 cases were transferred to the investigation agency for handling according to their authority. Through handling complaints and denunciations, 392 people were recommended for handling; 25 cases were transferred to the investigation agency for handling according to their authority.
Regarding the audit results, Mr. Doan Hong Phong said that the State Audit has recommended financial handling of 48,670.38 billion VND.
Regarding the detection and handling of corruption, the Investigation Agencies in the police force have investigated 1,538 cases with 3,897 defendants for corruption crimes. Prosecution of 856 cases with 2,686 defendants has been proposed.
The Criminal Investigation Agency of the Ministry of National Defense has investigated 23 cases with 70 defendants; proposed to prosecute 11 cases with 57 defendants.
People's Procuracies at all levels have accepted and resolved 1,186 cases with 3,869 defendants, and resolved 1,006 cases with 3,242 defendants.
People's Courts at all levels have resolved 1,154 cases with 3,201 defendants on corruption crimes; 917 cases with 2,418 defendants have been tried.
The total number of cases requiring execution of criminal sentences on corruption and economics is 12,877, of which 10,944 cases are eligible for execution, and 9,211 cases have been completed.
The Government Inspector General stated that in 2024, the work of preventing and combating corruption and negativity will regularly receive attention and direction from Party and State leaders, especially the Central Steering Committee on Preventing Corruption and Negativity.
Ministries, branches, localities, and agencies with the function of preventing and combating corruption have resolutely and synchronously implemented many solutions with very high political determination, achieving many important results.
In addition to the achieved results, according to the Government Inspector General, the overcoming of loopholes and inadequacies in mechanisms, policies and laws is still slow compared to practical requirements; Some anti-corruption measures have not been comprehensively implemented.
The situation of shirking responsibility, avoiding responsibility, and not daring to slow down has been overcome; The pursuit of fugitives abroad still faces many difficulties; The value of assets to be recovered in corruption and negative cases is still large.
Therefore, according to Mr. Doan Hong Phong, next year it is necessary to enhance the responsibility and role of the heads of agencies, organizations, units and localities. Strengthen discipline and administrative discipline, resolutely rectify and handle the situation of working half-heartedly, avoiding, pushing, and fearing mistakes and not daring to do things among cadres and party members.
Continue to promote the development and completion of a synchronous system of institutions on preventing and combating corruption and negativity; Continue to promote inspection, examination and auditing work focusing on areas prone to corruption and negativity.
At the same time, promptly resolve denunciations, recommendations, and reflections on corruption and negativity related to personnel of Party congresses at all levels; Speed up the verification, investigation, prosecution, and trial of serious, complicated corruption and negativity cases and incidents that are of public concern.
Continue to promote the work of preventing negative corruption at local and grassroots levels, overcoming the evil of "petty corruption" and the situation of "hot above, cold below".
