Previously, informing Lao Dong reporters, Chairman of Kim Lien Ward People's Committee Le Thi Kim Hue said that Hero of the People's Armed Forces La Van Cau passed away on June 24 (ie May 10, Binh Ngo year).
Hero of the People's Armed Forces La Van Cau, born in 1931, is a Tay ethnic person, from Phong Nam commune, Trung Khanh district, Cao Bang province (now Dinh Phong commune, Cao Bang province). He was admitted to the Communist Party of Vietnam in 1950.
During the years of resistance against French colonialism, he directly participated in 29 large and small battles, making many outstanding feats. Before the famous Dong Khe battle in 1950, he participated in the ambush of Bong Lau - Lung Phay, bravely volunteering to destroy many enemy forces, contributing to important victories on the Cao Bang battlefield.
Hero La Van Cau's name is associated with his immortal feat at Dong Khe stronghold in the Autumn-Winter Border Campaign in 1950. When assigned the task of carrying explosives to attack the bridgehead bunker to open the way for the unit to attack, he was shot and crushed in the right arm by enemy bullets.
In a dangerous situation, with the will "while alive to fight", he asked his comrades to cut off the injured arm, and continued to use his other hand to hug the explosive block and rush up to destroy the enemy's bunker, paving the way for the unit to volunteer for victory. That feat has become a bright symbol of courage, determination to fight and victory, and Vietnamese revolutionary heroism.
With particularly outstanding achievements, on May 19, 1952, he was honored to be one of the first seven soldiers in the country to be awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces by President Ho Chi Minh at the 1st National Congress of Emulation Soldiers and Exemplary Officers. This is a noble award recognizing his great contributions to the cause of national liberation.
