On the afternoon of February 24, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited Bach Mai Hospital on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Vietnam Doctors' Day (February 27, 1955 - February 27, 2025). Also attending were Central Party Committee member, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan, Minister of Education Nguyen Kim Son, leaders of central and local ministries, branches, professors, doctors, doctors, staff, employees, and workers of Bach Mai Hospital.
Established in 1911 with the predecessor being Cong Vong Hospital, Bach Mai Hospital has gone through more than a century of construction and development, becoming one of the leading medical facilities in the country. Currently, the hospital is not only a complete general hospital but also a specialized, high-tech medical center and a key medical human resource training unit. In particular, Bach Mai Hospital is the first special-class hospital in Vietnam.
Bach Mai Hospital, Facility 1, currently has a scale of 3,600 beds, 57 specialized units and a team of 4,500 employees, of which nearly 1,000 officers have postgraduate qualifications. Each year, the hospital receives about 2 million outpatients and nearly 200,000 inpatients, and conducts research on about 300 scientific topics.
The hospital's great contributions have been recognized by the Party and the State with many noble titles such as "Hero of the People's Armed Forces" and "Hero of Labor" in the renovation period. In particular, the hospital was honored to be visited by President Ho Chi Minh twice in 1954 and 1960, affirming its position and mission as a national key medical facility.
Speaking at the visit, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized: Health is the most precious asset of humanity, the foundation for the development of the country. The Party and State always attach importance to protecting and caring for people's health, identifying this as a strategic task. People want the health system to become increasingly clean, convenient, transparent, with reasonable prices and appropriate health insurance policies.
The Government is implementing important resolutions to ensure adequate medicine and medical equipment, improve the mechanism of bidding and procurement, as well as remove obstacles in the health system. At the same time, a Working Group was established to resolve the backlog of the two projects of Viet Duc Hospital and Bach Mai Hospital, Facility 2.
The Government directs the development of specific treatment policies for health care workers, improving grassroots health care capacity, encouraging doctors to return to disadvantaged areas, improving health insurance policies and managing drug prices. Promote the development of the pharmaceutical industry, the production of essential drugs, improve the quality of medical examination and treatment and reduce hospital overload.
In the coming time, Bach Mai Hospital needs to continue to promote its pioneering role in medicine, master advanced techniques, develop new treatment methods and replicate international medical achievements. The Government, the Ministry of Health and localities are committed to creating conditions for Bach Mai Hospital to become an international-level specialized, high-tech medical center according to the health plan by 2050.
The health sector and Bach Mai Hospital face a heavy but glorious task. According to the direction of the Party, State, Government, the health sector in general and Bach Mai Hospital in particular, it is necessary to continue to streamline the apparatus, improve operational efficiency in the spirit of the Central Resolutions, promote digital transformation according to Project 06, promote science, technology and innovation. At the same time, focus resources to put Bach Mai Hospital and Viet Duc Friendship Hospital in Ha Nam into operation on schedule.
With the leadership of the Party and State, Bach Mai Hospital will promote tradition, solidarity, strive to achieve greater achievements, and actively contribute to the cause of people's health care. On the occasion of Vietnamese Doctors' Day, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh wished the medical team good health, happiness, success, always worthy of Uncle Ho's teaching: "Doctors are like gentle mothers".
