On the morning of July 6, the Steering Committee for searching, repatriating and identifying martyrs' remains of Ho Chi Minh City organized a ceremony to deploy the search and repatriation of martyrs' remains at Le Thi Rieng Park (Hoa Hung ward, Ho Chi Minh City).
Attending the ceremony were Politburo Member, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung; Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra, Head of National Steering Committee 515, along with leaders and former leaders of the Party, State, ministries, central agencies and Ho Chi Minh City.

Before the ceremony, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and the delegation respectfully offered incense and flowers to commemorate the heroic martyrs, expressing deep gratitude to those who bravely sacrificed for the cause of national liberation and reunification.

This search and repatriation phase was deployed after a survey process lasting from June 15. The Ho Chi Minh City Command has coordinated with the Institute of Design (General Department of Logistics - Technology), Hanoi University of Science and Technology, University of Science and Ben Thanh Water Supply Joint Stock Company to use ground-penetrating radar technology to survey three areas in Le Thi Rieng Park.

According to research results, these are locations identified as suspected to be mass graves of about 900 martyrs who sacrificed in the General Offensive and Uprising of Spring Mau Than 1968.
Specifically, the first area is about 800 m2 wide, located next to the Traditional House and The Huc bridge; the second area is about 500 m2 wide, near the bird cafe; the third area is about 1,200 m2 wide, near the billiard yard. The three areas are located within a radius of about 50 m.
Initial survey results recorded many abnormal signs underground. Data collected from survey units is similar, creating a scientific basis for deploying excavation and searching for martyrs' remains.

To serve the repatriation process, the Ho Chi Minh City Command has arranged a drainage pump system, erected tents to protect the excavation area and completed the construction site, ensuring the necessary conditions for the task force.
At the same time, Ho Chi Minh City also requested the Ministry of National Defense to support forensic forces to take DNA samples in case of finding remains, serving the work of examination and identification of martyrs, contributing to bringing heroic martyrs back to their families and homeland after many decades.
