The official visit to Vietnam by Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, which took place not long after General Secretary To Lam's visit to Singapore (March 9-13), is a step to implement the awareness and agreements reached by the two countries' senior leaders during the visit of the General Secretary.

At the invitation of Politburo member and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his wife, Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and his wife paid an official visit to Vietnam from March 25-26.

Sharing with VNA, Vietnamese Ambassador to Singapore Tran Phuoc Anh pointed out that Prime Minister Lawrence Wong's visit to Vietnam is meaningful to welcome and introduce after Prime Minister Lawrence Wong took office in May 2024.

The Ambassador pointed out: Firstly, the visit demonstrates Singapore's interest and importance in cooperation with Vietnam. Secondly, the visit is also a highlight because 2025 is a very special year in the relationship between Vietnam and Singapore. In addition to the two countries having just announced the upgrading of their relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, this year Singapore celebrates the 60th anniversary of Independence Day and Vietnam celebrates the 80th anniversary of National Day.

The Vietnamese Ambassador to Singapore emphasized that the visit of Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, which took place not long after General Secretary To Lam's visit to Singapore, "is also a step to implement the awareness and agreement that the two countries' senior leaders reached during General Secretary To Lam's visit".

Ambassador Tran Phuoc Anh said that there are many areas that Singapore wishes to promote to Vietnam such as food security, energy security, projects such as Vietnam - Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP), or projects on data centers, financial centers... Meanwhile, Vietnam can expect support from Singapore in training cadres, not only as leaders at the strategic level but also as experts working, civil servants, students.

Professor Vu Minh Khuong - Ly Quang Dieu School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore - commented that the upgrading of Vietnam - Singapore relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, along with the immediate visit to Vietnam by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, demonstrates Singapore's great expectations for bilateral relations. According to Professor Vu Minh Khuong, the time of Prime Minister Lawrence Wong's visit was not only due to time arrangements from Singapore but also demonstrated a deep belief that the relationship between the two countries can bring great values. This shows that relations with Vietnam have become a strategic priority of Singapore in 2025 and in the future.

Professor Vu Minh Khuong highly appreciated the Vietnam - Singapore relationship in the general context of ASEAN and current fluctuations in the world. He emphasized the importance of strengthening resilience to global fluctuations. The two countries need to attach importance to regular consultations and solve practical problems such as improving labor productivity, competitiveness, digital economic connectivity, green economy, logistics and maritime... He expects Vietnam and Singapore to become a bright spot not only in Southeast Asia but also globally.

Professor Bilveer Singh - Deputy Head of the Faculty of Political Science at the National University of Singapore - commented that Prime Minister Lawrence Wong's visit to Vietnam clearly demonstrates his goodwill to promote bilateral relations from the perspective of Singapore's leadership, a typical representative of the country's new generation of leaders.
