On December 13, in Hanoi, the 12th Army Corps solemnly held a ceremony to posthumously award the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces to Lieutenant General Dong Sy Nguyen - former member of the Politburo, former Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers, former Commander of the Truong Son Command, according to VGP.
Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long, leaders of central and local ministries, departments, and agencies, relatives of Lieutenant General Dong Sy Nguyen's family, and a large number of officers, employees, and soldiers of Army Corps 12 attended the ceremony.
At the ceremony, authorized by the President, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long awarded the title "Hero of the People's Armed Forces" to Lieutenant General Dong Sy Nguyen's family.
At the ceremony, Colonel Nguyen The Luc, Party Secretary, Deputy Commander of Army Corps 12, said: During more than 80 years of revolutionary activities, comrade Dong Sy Nguyen was assigned by the Party, State, and Army to take on many important responsibilities: Member of the Politburo; Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers; Minister of Construction; Minister of Transport; Deputy Minister of National Defense; Commander of Truong Son Command... Comrade Dong Sy Nguyen participated in activities in many fields, from politics, military, economy, society to foreign affairs.
In any position or field, he always left his mark, showing himself to be a talented, resilient and virtuous communist soldier. During nearly 10 years as Commander of Group 559 - Truong Son Army, Comrade Dong Sy Nguyen and the Truong Son General Staff commanded a powerful force with a scale of 9 divisions and 21 subordinate regiments, overcoming all difficulties, successfully completing the great mission of supporting all battlefields. It was this time that made Lieutenant General Dong Sy Nguyen's name shine with the title: Commander of the legendary Truong Son.
Speaking at the ceremony, Major General Nguyen Huu Ngoc - Commander of the 12th Corps - affirmed that generations of Truong Son soldiers in general and officers and soldiers of the 12th Corps in particular, whenever mentioning Lieutenant General Dong Sy Nguyen, expressed their respect, love and emotions. His example of loyalty to the country and filial piety to the people is a source of pride, a source of inspiration, adding strength and will, determination for many generations of Truong Son soldiers, overcoming difficulties, challenges, striving to contribute, fight, win and build the unit to develop more and more in the new era.
The fact that Lieutenant General Dong Sy Nguyen was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces by the President not only shows the Party, State and Army's recognition of his exceptionally outstanding contributions and achievements, but also shows gratitude, recognition and appreciation of the great contributions of the Truong Son Troops in the resistance war against the US to save the country. In particular, it is also the honor and pride of his family and hometown; meeting the expectations of generations of Truong Son Troops in the past as well as the cadres, soldiers and workers of the 12th Corps today.
