On August 10 and 11, the 1st Phu Quoc Special Party Congress (An Giang) for the 2025-2030 term took place, with the participation of 247 official delegates, representing 3,470 party members in the entire party.
For the 2020-2025 term, the Phu Quoc City Party Committee (old Kien Giang province) has 21/30 targets to achieve and exceed the Congress Resolution. From Phu Quoc island district was upgraded to a city, becoming the first island city in Vietnam. The work of building and rectifying the Party and the political system has been comprehensively promoted, with clear results.
Speaking at the congress, Mr. Nguyen Tien Hai - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the An Giang Provincial Party Committee - suggested a number of issues such as focusing on building a "streamlined - compact - strong - efficient - effective" Party Committee and political system on par with the tasks. Phu Quoc needs to fully recognize its potential and advantages to accelerate the development speed accordingly.
The Secretary of the An Giang Provincial Party Committee suggested continuing to review, adjust, and effectively implement socio-economic development plans according to the orientation of the Government and the province. Focus on reviewing and removing difficulties and obstacles to speed up project implementation and open up investment capital flows. At the same time, improve the quality of urban planning, adjustment and supplementation, ensure modern urban development standards, and create a space for green and sustainable development.
It is necessary to focus on developing clean technology, marine services, high-tech agriculture; exploiting and raising aquatic and marine products suitable for natural conditions associated with the application of science and technology, especially in the field of forest and marine biodiversity conservation, contributing to the protection of natural ecosystems and economic development associated with sustainable environmental protection.
The Party Committee must pay attention to developing the socio-cultural development of the special zone in proportion, synchronously, and in harmony with economic development; building the image of each Phu Quoc people as a "cultural - tourism ambassador".
By implementing specific policies and creating all favorable conditions for all people on the island to truly inherit the fruits of the development brought by Phu Quoc, especially the disadvantaged in society. Promote socialization, encourage organizations, businesses and people to participate in providing social security services. Strengthen support for people to travel together; vocational training, skills, expertise, foreign languages, associated with job creation for local people.
The Standing Committee of the An Giang Provincial Party Committee has appointed 29 comrades to join the Executive Committee of the Phu Quoc Special Zone Party Committee for the 2025 - 2030 term; the Standing Committee of 12 members. Comrade Le Quoc Anh holds the position of Party Committee Secretary; comrades: Tran Minh Khoa, Dang Thi Hong Gam hold the position of Deputy Secretary of the Phu Quoc Special Zone Party Committee. The delegation attending the higher-level congress includes 11 official delegates and 3 absent delegates.
