For the first time, a walking activity was held simultaneously in 34 provinces and cities with 3,321 communes, wards and special administrative areas nationwide.
From July 25 to August 16, 2025, people nationwide can register online on the official electronic information portal:vietnamtienbuoc.nhandan.vn and start recording footsteps contributing to the journey with the message "2 billion steps into the new era" - a practical activity demonstrating patriotism, reducing carbon emissions and towards the goal of Net Zero ( net zero emissions) of the country.
In particular, from 6:00 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. on August 16, 2025, participants nationwide will wear red shirts with yellow stars, head to the historic Ba Dinh Square to watch the national flag-raising ceremony, sing the National Anthem, and move forward for a united, strong and sustainable Vietnam.
This is not only a sporting event in response to the campaign "All people exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho" and the movement "Health to build and protect the Fatherland", but also a journey of millions of hearts in harmony - where all generations and all classes of people from the central to local levels converge, from urban to rural areas, mountainous areas, remote areas.
Each locality contributes a part of its strength to move together for a great goal: For a united, strong Vietnam, ready to step into a new era - the era of national aspirations, of the spirit of progress for a strong future.
In addition, each step recorded through the campaign's digital platform will become a "green step" - a small but meaningful action, contributing to reducing carbon emissions, raising awareness of environmental protection and towards the national Net Zero goal.
The cooperation between Nhan Dan Newspaper and the Ministry of Public Security to create unprecedented values
According to Comrade Le Quoc Minh, Member of the Party Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department, Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association, Head of the Steering Committee for the activity "Marching Along with Vietnam": This is an event of special significance, contributing to the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution, National Day September 2 and the Traditional Day of the People's Public Security.
Sharing about the idea of organizing the program, he said that this activity has been nurtured by the Organizing Committee for a long time and has become a reality with the close coordination of the Ministry of Public Security. "We have had many discussions to implement the program most effectively," said the comrade.
According to comrade Le Quoc Minh, this walking event was held simultaneously in 34 provinces and cities, spreading to 3,321 communes, wards and special administrative areas across the country. Initially, the goal was expected to attract about 150,000-200,000 participants, recording 1 billion steps in just one hour.
In addition to the goal of improving public health, the program also contributes to reducing CO2 emissions, towards a green lifestyle, the comrade emphasized and expressed his hope that with the strong participation of the Ministry of Public Security, the scale of implementation will far exceed the original plan.
Up to this point, on the online registration portal, in just one week, the number of steps has reached more than 150 million, equal to 1/7 of the set target. Many units and tens of thousands of union members and young people across the country also responded enthusiastically.
Comrade Le Quoc Minh said that on the morning of August 16, before the national walking activity, the program will have a direct connection to the Flag-raising ceremony at Ba Dinh Square.
In 33 provinces and cities, more than 3,321 communes, wards and special zones will simultaneously hold a solemn flag-raising ceremony, creating a meaningful moment, connecting millions of hearts towards the Fatherland, he shared.
Speaking at the press conference, Major General Le Hong Hiep, Deputy Director of the Department of Political Affairs (Ministry of Public Security) said that the event "Marching forward with Vietnam" is not just a simple community physical activity, but a collective action of great political and social significance, demonstrating the determination of the entire nation in overcoming difficulties together, maintaining health, strengthening solidarity towards the goal of sustainable development, strong integration in the new era.
As soon as the plan was issued, the Minister of Public Security directed units under the Ministry of Public Security and the police in localities across the country to simultaneously deploy preparation work, coordinate organization and participation in activities.
In particular, the provincial and municipal police forces are the leading units in coordinating with the permanent agencies of Nhan Dan Newspaper to advise local Party committees and authorities to simultaneously organize the launch in 34 provinces, cities and 3,321 communes, wards and special zones nationwide. In particular, the Public Security sector will not only carry out propaganda and mobilization but will also participate in walking.
The People's Public Security Force always plays a core role in the general physical exercise and sports movement and organizes sports activities to build walking habits, contributing to environmental protection and health training.
