On September 6 and 7, 2024, Typhoon Yagi caused serious damage with strong gusts of wind and a long duration of the storm, causing major damage to property and infrastructure, uprooting many trees, collapsing electric poles and billboards. The provinces/cities of Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Hanoi, Hung Yen, Hai Duong, and Bac Ninh were the most severely affected areas. According to the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention, by the afternoon of September 8, 2024, Typhoon Yagi had left 24 people dead and missing, nearly 7,400 houses damaged, many high-voltage power lines had problems, and a series of power poles, billboards, and trees were broken in the northern provinces, posing many risks to community activities. In particular, 25 boats sank in Quang Ninh. Agriculture also suffered great damage with nearly 98,000 hectares of rice, 11,700 hectares of crops flooded, and 1,100 aquaculture cages damaged and swept away.
