Gold price forecast
After a sharp drop at the end of the week, the outlook for gold prices next week is assessed to continue to fluctuate unpredictably as the market must balance between pressure from US monetary policy and expectations of bottom-fishing buying force appearing after a deep correction.
The biggest pressure on gold currently comes from the expectation that interest rates in the US will change rapidly. Stronger signals about inflation control have made the possibility of the Fed raising interest rates in September re-calculated by the market. Along with that, the USD and US Treasury bond yields have increased, reducing the attractiveness of precious metals - assets that do not provide fixed yields.
Technically, the sell-off at the end of the week caused gold prices to break through many important support zones, including the 200-day moving average around 4,526 USD/ounce. Losing this zone shows that the short-term trend has weakened significantly.
After falling to the 4,450 USD/ounce area, gold is facing an important test. If selling pressure continues to prevail and the around 4,458 USD/ounce area is not maintained, the price is at risk of falling further into support areas around 4,320 USD/ounce, even 4,230 USD/ounce.
In the opposite direction, the possibility of recovery has not been completely eliminated. To improve technical status, gold prices first need to return above the 4,500 USD/ounce zone. The levels around 4,526 USD/ounce and 4,600 USD/ounce will then become noteworthy resistance zones.
Notably, despite the recent sharp decline, the psychology of analysts has not completely shifted to negativity. In a survey of 21 Wall Street experts, 10 people, equivalent to about 48%, predicted gold prices would increase next week. Six experts, accounting for about 29%, believe that prices will continue to fall, while the remaining 5 believe the market may move sideways.
The psychology of individual investors is even more positive. Among 207 survey participants, 59% expect gold to recover, significantly higher than the group forecasting a decrease in price.
