World gold prices fell last night amid a slight increase in the USD index. Recorded at 11:30 p.m. on September 3, the US Dollar Index, which measures the greenback's fluctuations against six major currencies, stood at 101.757 points (up 0.13%).
According to Kitco, gold prices fell sharply due to profit-taking activities of investors taking place right before a busy week with US economic reports.

Despite the fall in gold prices, strong buying from central banks is supporting gold prices.
In the latest report from the World Gold Council (WGC), WGC Senior Analyst Krishan Gopaul noted that central banks have continued to accumulate gold in recent months.
“Although overall demand is reported to have cooled as gold prices rose to record highs, it remains positive,” he said.
Central bank gold purchases doubled in July, the expert said. Global central banks added a net 37 tonnes to their official reserves, representing a 206% increase.
