In Vinh Trung village (Ngoc Hoi commune, Hanoi), mentioning Mr. Nguyen Van Dam (born in 1950), many people cannot help but feel sad. He lives alone in a simple house, without children, without work, and illness haunting him for many years.
Born into a family of 8 siblings, being the third child, Mr. Dam's childhood was already disadvantaged. From a young age, he suffered from "anguito vein" disease, and was often injected with drugs. Growing up, he participated in social work, worked in the railway industry, and was then transferred to the South to work in the transportation sector in the 1970s-1971s. The years of youthful dedication passed, he returned to his hometown, working hard in rice cultivation with his wife from 1980 to 2019 to support himself.
EVENTS began to rush when his health declined. Around 2000, he was diagnosed with kidney cyst disease, leading to kidney stones, leading to many cardiovascular, lung and stomach consequences. The disease caused his body to be constantly tired and diet poorly. In 2016, Mr. Dam suffered a stroke and had to be treated for a long time at Ngoc Hoi Hospital. Hospital expenses were collected by relatives.
But the biggest pain for Mr. Dam was the passing of his partner. In 2019, his wife - Mrs. Nguyen Thi Tao - passed away due to breast cancer. Before that, she had been treated at Thanh Nhan Oval Hospital and then transferred to Hanoi Heart Hospital... His wife passed away, leaving Mr. Dam with an empty house and loneliness that has lasted until today.
Currently, Mr. Dam has to go for treatment once a month. Without money to buy medicine outside, he drinks whatever type of medicine the hospital provides to make up for it. "I have to try my best not to make the disease worse, even though I have to abstain from many things," Mr. Dam choked up.
There were times when he was talking, Mr. Dam suddenly had difficulty breathing and had to quickly take out medicine to drink. Wherever he went, whatever he did, the medicine bag was always around him. "Without medicine, I can't stand it," he shared.

Old age, weak health, no longer able to work, Mr. Dam also does not have a stable source of social assistance. Relatives live nearby but everyone is in difficulty, mainly visiting and encouraging spirit. Expenses for medicine and daily living become a constant burden...
Talking to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong - Head of Vinh Trung village, Ngoc Hoi commune, said that Mr. Dam's situation is considered difficult in the locality.
He lives alone, with many underlying illnesses, and has no income. The village government regularly visits and encourages him, but the support conditions are still limited. We really hope philanthropists will join hands to help Mr. Dam have more conditions to treat his illness and stabilize his life," Ms. Huong said.
