In Hung Hien village, Thuong Tin commune (Hanoi), mentioning the family situation of Mr. Hoang Trung Ta (born in 1971), many people cannot help but feel sad. As the 6th child in a family of 8 siblings, his father died early, his mother is currently living with his older brother, Mr. Ta's life from a young age has been associated with deprivation.
In the dilapidated small house, old hair scissors are the means and main source of income to support the whole family. That man with atrophied legs never allowed himself to collapse. But ahead is still a long road with illness and the burden of food and clothing...
According to Mr. Ta, at the age of 16, he developed a serious illness. From the hip area down, his body gradually atrophied due to hip arthritis, knee arthritis, walking became increasingly difficult. The years of youth of that man were not associated with big dreams or ambitions, but with times of going for examinations at district-level hospitals in poor conditions.
At that time, I just thought the pain would go away, who knew the disease would follow me for the rest of my life...", Mr. Ta said.
In 2014, Mr. Ta got married. A year later, his daughter - Hoang Tran Hong Truc (born in 2015) - was born. But the joy was not complete when the family received bad news: she had Down syndrome. When she was only 1 month old, Truc had to be treated at the National Children's Hospital for a month due to bronchitis and shortness of breath. In 2019, the family continued to have her tested again at Hanoi Medical University, the results remained unchanged.
My child was born disadvantaged, looking at his naiveness, I only know pity and sadness in my heart. As a father, I cannot afford to treat my child's illness, not give my child good care conditions...", Mr. Ta sadly shared.
Mr. Ta's wife - Mrs. Tran Thi Lan (born in 1973) - works as a hired tailor for the craft village. However, Mrs. Lan suffers from chronic bronchospasm. In July 2023, she had to go to the Central Lung Hospital for examination and treatment. Currently, the cost of medicine for Mrs. Lan is about 5 million VND/month. Poor health makes tailoring work sometimes available and sometimes not available...

To have money to support his family, Mr. Ta works as a barber. With his legs already atrophied, each step is hard, but he still tries to sit for many hours each day next to an old hairdressing chair. Unstable income, sometimes less than 1 million VND per month, but he still tries to persevere... "Accuate customers love him and come to support, if there is no money...", Mr. Ta sadly shared.
Medication costs for his wife, money for taking care of his daughter, daily living expenses... all the burden weighed heavily on the shoulders of the disabled man. There were days when the weather changed, his limbs ached, he still tried to sit and work because "taking leave means there is no money to buy medicine for his wife".
According to Mr. Ta, Truc's awareness is slower than her peers, every time her child has a shortness of breath or fatigue, his wife and he rush to take her to the doctor. "I just hope my child is healthy and knows how to take care of himself later, I am happy," Mr. Ta said with tears in his eyes.
According to Mr. Le Tho Hai - Head of Hamlet 1, Hung Hien village, Thuong Tin commune, Mr. Ta's family is in particularly difficult circumstances in the locality.
Mr. Ta himself has muscle atrophy, his wife is seriously ill, and his daughter has Down syndrome. Low income, high drug costs. We really hope philanthropists will join hands to help the family have more conditions and stabilize their lives," Mr. Hai said.
