According to the enrollment plan of the Da Nang City Department of Education and Training (GDĐT), the whole city has 38,690 targets for 10th grade public schools. Meanwhile, the number of 9th grade students this year is nearly 46,000. Thus, after the exam taking place from May 22 to 25, there will be more than 7,300 students who cannot enter public schools.
Typically, Phan Chau Trinh High School, the target is 1,440 students but there are 2,922 students registering for nguyện vọng 1, more than 2 times higher than the target. At Ton That Tung High School, the target is 720 students but the number of registered nguyện vọng 2 is up to 1,990 students, nearly 3 times higher than the reception capacity.
Explaining the figure of more than 7,000 students not being admitted to public schools, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Nam - Deputy Director of Da Nang City Department of Education and Training said: "This figure of 7,000 students is a combination of the two localities after the merger, so in absolute terms it seems large, but in terms of proportion, the current school system is quite stable, meeting learning requirements well. The network of public schools after the merger is currently capable of receiving about 85% of students after lower secondary school.
Regarding the number of students who are not admitted to public schools, the city's education sector has specific vocational guidance plans for other training systems. Mr. Nguyen Hoang Nam said: "About 6,000 to 7,000 students who are not admitted to public schools can register for non-public schools with good enrollment capacity such as FPT or Ha Huy Tap. These schools are capable of receiving about 20,000 to 3,000 students.
Regarding the remaining students, Mr. Nam added: "They will register for vocational education institutions. Here, vocational schools will link with continuing education centers to teach the cultural system in parallel with vocational training. The goal is to properly implement Resolution 71, ensuring that over 80% of adolescents aged 15-18 graduate from high school or equivalent training systems".
The shortage of school places is partly due to the school network not keeping up with the rate of mechanical population growth. Previously, right from the beginning of 2026, Da Nang was promoting a plan to expand the area for 10 existing high schools such as Tran Phu, Luong The Vinh, Nguyen Van Troi, Le Quy Don specialized school...
At the same time, the Department of Education and Training proposed to build 3 new high schools in Dong Dien Ban, Dong Duy Xuyen and Nam Thang Binh areas with a scale of about 5 hectares each. This investment aims to form a master plan framework, associated with arranging the apparatus and allocating resources to ensure the best teaching and learning conditions in the new situation.
