Rushing" to prepare for 10th grade exam
In just a few weeks, the entrance exam to 10th grade public high schools in Hanoi will officially take place. At this time, many 9th grade students are entering the most stressful review period with a dense schedule from morning to night.
Grade pressure and the desire to be admitted to the dream school make many students increase the intensity of tutoring during the period near the exam.
Sharing with reporters, Chu Pham Thanh Loan - a 9A1 student at Xuan Canh Secondary School (Dong Anh commune, Hanoi) - expressed: "I spend most of my time practicing Math and English because these are two subjects I want to improve my scores more. Sometimes I study until almost 12 pm before going to bed. Although quite tired, I still try my best because this exam is very important".
Loan also added that in the pre-exam period, she often makes her own study plan according to each day to avoid being overloaded with knowledge: "I try to alternate exam preparation time with reviewing the theory part I have learned, and at the same time limit entertainment activities to focus more on the upcoming exam".
In particular, besides learning more math in the tutoring class, because this is still a weak subject, Loan also studies with tutors at home 2 sessions a week to consolidate knowledge and improve test-taking skills.
Not only focusing on extra classes, many students choose to systemize knowledge themselves to remember longer. Do Minh Long - a 9th grade student at a secondary school in Thu Lam commune (Hanoi) - said that he often makes a daily study plan to avoid being overloaded.
I divide the study time according to each topic, in the evening I will practice the questions in the same exam time frame to get used to the time pressure. I record the wrong questions separately to draw experience. In addition, I also try to sleep earlier, limit using my phone to keep my spirit stable before the exam" - Long shared.
Orientation to help students stabilize knowledge
Talking about effective review methods in the final stage, Ms. Nguyen Thien Huong - Vice Principal of Mai Lam Secondary School (Dong Anh commune, Hanoi) - said that students should not be too panicked by the large amount of knowledge.
According to Ms. Huong, in the final sprint stage, the most important thing is that students need to focus firmly on basic knowledge before doing advanced forms of exercises: "Many students have the mentality of rushing to solve difficult problems but miss out on basic knowledge. Meanwhile, exam questions always have most questions belonging to basic knowledge. Therefore, students need to study this part thoroughly before expanding to advanced forms of exercises".

Ms. Huong also encourages students to systematize knowledge with mind maps or short summary tables for easy remembering. For subjects with many formulas or facts, self-summary will help students see the flow of knowledge more clearly instead of mechanically memorizing.
Besides reviewing theory, exam preparation is considered a particularly important step. According to Ms. Huong, students should do the exam questions according to the prescribed time to practice skills in time allocation, and at the same time get used to the pressure of the exam room. After each exam, students need to review errors to supplement the weak knowledge.
Not only paying attention to studying, Ms. Huong emphasized that the psychological factor plays a decisive role in the exam: "Students need to maintain calm psychology, avoid creating too much pressure on themselves. Staying up late continuously does not help study better but also makes the body tired and reduces concentration.
According to her, students should have enough sleep and rest, eat regularly and maintain a comfortable spirit in the days leading up to the exam.
