Quang Ngai currently has 434 relics that have been ranked or included in the inventory list. Among them, 187 relics are degraded, and many relics have not been granted land use right certificates.
This is the content stated by the Quang Ngai Provincial People's Council in the Resolution on the results of the specialized supervision of state management of the restoration and promotion of the value of historical and cultural relics in the province.
According to the monitoring report, after merging Quang Ngai and Kon Tum provinces, the whole province has 434 relics ranked or included in the inventory list by competent authorities, including 5 special national relics, 38 national relics, 193 provincial-level relics and 198 relics in the inventory list. Among the ranked relics, only 35 relics are still in good condition; 187 relics are degraded; the rest have been or are being repaired and restored.
In the period 2021 - 2025, Quang Ngai province implemented 21 projects to preserve, repair, and restore relics with a total budget of more than 259 billion VND. Digital transformation has initially achieved results when many relics were attached with QR codes to serve information lookup; 270 relics records have been updated to management software.
After implementing the two-level local government model, the management of relics in some localities is still clumsy. Currently, only 119/236 ranked relics have been marked and only 38 relics have been granted land use right certificates. The zoning for protection and completion of land dossiers is still slow, posing a potential risk of encroachment and land disputes for relics.
Resources for conservation work are still limited. Many degraded relics have not been restored in time, especially provincial-level relics, relics in remote and isolated areas, ethnic minority areas and sea and island areas. Digital transformation is not synchronized; the exploitation of relics' value to serve tourism development is still not commensurate with its potential.
Based on the results of the supervision, the Quang Ngai Provincial People's Council proposed that the Provincial People's Committee review the entire relic system after arranging administrative units; accelerate the zoning for protection, planting boundary markers and issuing land use right certificates for ranked relics. At the same time, develop a plan to preserve, repair and promote the value of relics in the period 2026 - 2030, prioritizing allocation of resources to preserve seriously degraded relics.
Mr. Dao Duy Khanh, Head of the Culture - Society Committee, Quang Ngai Provincial People's Council, said: "The Provincial People's Council requests the Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee to direct departments, branches; People's Committees of communes, wards and relevant agencies and units to continue to review and improve policies, improve state management capacity on cultural heritage; synchronously implement the 2024 Law on Cultural Heritage and guiding documents for implementation; consolidate the organization of relic management; clearly define the responsibilities and coordination mechanisms of agencies, units, and localities in managing, protecting and promoting the value of relics".
