The beauty queens played their roles well.
On the occasion of Tet 2025, the audience witnessed the race of beauty queens when appearing in 2/3 of the Vietnamese films dominating the theaters these days. Tran Thanh played big when letting Miss Vietnam 2018 Tieu Vy take on the female lead role of "The Four Guardians", along with the appearance of Miss Ky Duyen. Meanwhile, Thu Trang, in her first time as a director, "chose the right person to entrust" Miss Grand Vietnam 2022 Doan Thien An to play the female lead of "The Billion Dollar Kiss".
Since its announcement, the production team has faced a lot of controversy about letting beauty queens enter the film industry. However, when the films were officially released, the acting of the beauty queens surprised the audience.
Having debuted in the film industry but not making an impression with her role in “Cong Tu Bac Lieu”, until “Nu hon bac billion”, Thien An has shown remarkable progress in acting. In “Nu hon bac billion”, Thien An’s acting is quite natural, not exaggerated, making the role of Thuy Van conveyed to the audience in a complete way.
Perhaps having similar circumstances to the character helps Thien An sympathize with the character's pain and hurt.
Besides, the interaction with co-stars like Le Xuan Tien, Ma Ran Do, especially experienced seniors like Thu Trang, does not make Thien An feel too inferior. Many audiences believe that Thien An is completely capable of going far in the film industry if she seriously invests in researching and learning from her seniors.
Although it was her debut role in the film industry, Ky Duyen received many compliments for her acting ability and was a surprising factor in the cast of “The Four Guardians”. Ky Duyen’s acting was considered suitable to portray the character Karen - an ambitious woman with many hidden corners in her life and a somewhat psychologically distorted mindset when she sees men as prey in a love game, ready to bring them down if she does not achieve her goals.
Miss Vietnam 2014's delivery of lines is also considered natural, "acting as if not acting", not dramatic like the mistake some actors often make.
Before “The Four Guardians” was released, Ky Duyen caused a stir with a quote in the trailer and when the film aired, many viewers commented that the beauty acted much better than they expected.
In her first time playing the female lead role in Tran Thanh's film, Miss Tieu Vy also received compliments for her improvement in acting. One of the factors that made the audience feel that Tieu Vy acted better was because the character Quynh Anh's personality had many similarities with the beauty in real life.
Efforts to escape the label of "beauty queen in movies"
Although they still have to improve more to be recognized as actors, the progress of the beauty queens in Vietnamese films released during Tet 2025 is proof of their efforts to escape the label of "mobile flower vases" as well as the prejudices the audience has for them.
To pursue acting careers, Miss Ky Duyen, Tieu Vy and Thien An all attended many acting courses from veteran seniors in the profession.
Sharing with Lao Dong, Miss Thien An affirmed that she is serious about her acting career and will continue to learn from her predecessors, read many scripts and practice a lot to be able to meet the requirements of the acting profession.
“For me, acting is a new field that I want to pursue. I am very attentive and serious about this field, so I am open to any constructive comments from the audience. These comments will motivate me to be more attentive to my upcoming roles,” said Doan Thien An.
