Attending the opening ceremony of Nguyen Hue Flower Street for the Year of the Snake 2025 were Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia; Politburo member, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen; Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Thanh Nghi; Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai, along with former leaders of the Central Government and Ho Chi Minh City through the periods, leaders of ministries, departments, agencies of Ho Chi Minh City, representatives of consulates in Ho Chi Minh City, businesses and people in attendance.
After more than half a month of construction, the 700m long Nguyen Hue flower street has been completed, donning a brilliant coat with the theme "Brocade and flower mountains and rivers, happy spring in peace".
The flower street is divided into three segments: “Unity”, “Transformation” and “Development”, depicting the historical stages of the country.
According to Lao Dong, during the opening ceremony, many people and tourists gathered around the flower street area to visit and take souvenir photos.
Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh (Thu Duc City) shared: “I have been there since 4pm waiting for the door to open. This year’s snake mascot is very soulful, beautiful and cute. I really look forward to taking my children to visit.”
The highlight of this year’s flower street is the pair of giant snake mascots at the welcome gate, near the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee. The pair of snakes named Kim Ty (female, 25m long) and Ngan Ty (male, 42m long) intertwine, forming a base more than 11m wide and over 6m high.
About 70% of the materials used to make this pair of mascots are environmentally friendly. The snake's head and belly are covered with painted pressed bamboo panels, and its back is covered with reflective mica scales.
In particular, the 10cm diameter snake eyes are meticulously painted, creating a vivid highlight. The bamboo bushes behind the pair of mascots are also crafted from blinds, rattan and bamboo covered with rounded steel boxes, creating a gentle color transition effect.
At the end of the flower street, adjacent to Ton Duc Thang Street, another snake mascot measuring more than 50m long and more than 10m high is placed here. This mascot has a strong Southern character with a checkered scarf and conical hat, simulating the shape of a king cobra raising its head.
The snake’s entire body is covered in green, symbolizing life and growth. Its body is made from nearly 3,000 painted foam scales, bent into two circles, surrounded by colorful lotus flowers.
This year's Nguyen Hue Flower Street also has about 90 Ty mascots with many different shapes and colors, mainly concentrated behind the welcome gate.
Two robots about 3m high, shaped from foam and decorated with 2,000 dried flowers, are also an interesting highlight.
The robot's face is an LED screen displaying happy expressions and New Year greetings. Each robot weighs about 500kg, is equipped with motors to move its arms and head, and emits sounds to interact with visitors.
Nguyen Hue Flower Street will open to serve residents and tourists from 7pm on December 28 (January 27) to 9pm on the 5th day of Tet (February 2).
