Accordingly, on the first day of Tet, police units and localities inspected, detected and handled 3,980 violations; imposed fines of VND9 billion 956 million; temporarily detained 34 cars, 1,335 motorbikes, 20 other vehicles; revoked 115 driving licenses of all types; deducted driving license points in 493 cases.
Notably, the units only recorded and handled 967 cases of alcohol concentration violations. Other violations are as follows: speeding violations were 963 cases, overloading 4 cases, carrying more people than the prescribed number of cases, and drug violations were 10 cases.
Thus, the number of alcohol violations is the lowest since the beginning of the Tet holiday. Previously, the Traffic Police Department said that on January 25 (26th of Tet), the Road Traffic Police force handled 1,909 cases of alcohol violations. On January 26 (27th of Tet), there were 2,106 cases of alcohol violations. On January 27 (28th of Tet), the number was 1,842 cases. On January 28 (29th of Tet), the Traffic Police force handled 1,896 cases of alcohol violations.
Regarding the traffic accident situation, the Traffic Safety Committee said that on the first day of Tet, there were 56 accidents nationwide, killing 17 people and injuring 45 people (no accidents on railways; 1 accident on waterways, killing 1 person). Compared to the first day of the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin in 2024, there were 18 fewer accidents, 23 fewer deaths, and 28 fewer injuries.
Regarding traffic congestion, the Traffic Safety Committee said that the streets of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are deserted and clear, allowing vehicles to move easily both within the city and at the city gates. Despite the sparse number of vehicles, road users still strictly obey traffic laws.
The Traffic Safety Committee assessed that during the Lunar New Year 2025, the Traffic Police force has made continuous efforts to ensure traffic safety for the people. The Traffic Police Department and local Traffic Police have increased their on-duty, traffic guidance, traffic regulation and inter-provincial coordination to ensure smooth traffic.
