According to Box Office Vietnam, "Heo Nam Mong" officially reached 100 billion VND after 12 days in theaters. This is the second Vietnamese film to reach this milestone in this year's holiday film season, after "Phí phông: Quỷ máu rừng thiêng".
However, compared to the level of films that have created a box office "fever" in previous holiday seasons, the growth rate of "Heo Nam Mong" is assessed as not really explosive. The film took nearly two weeks to surpass the 100 billion VND mark, while many previous hits have achieved similar results after only about a week of screening.
Previously, on May 6, "Heo Nam Mong" continued to lead box office revenue with about 2.56 billion VND from more than 35,000 tickets sold. However, the heat of the film has shown signs of slowing down when the average number of tickets per screening is no longer as high as in the early holiday period.
Meanwhile, "Phí phông: Quỷ máu rừng thiêng" continues to show remarkable durability. Director Do Quoc Trung's work currently achieves about 183 billion VND in revenue and became the box office champion on April 30 this year. The movie's postponement of screening before the festival helps the work maintain its media advantage and stable audience for many weeks.
In the opposite direction, many Vietnamese films released at the same time did not achieve the expected results.
As of the morning of May 7, director Vo Thach Thao's movie "Hero" has currently reached nearly 40 billion VND after nearly two weeks of release. This is not too low for an action - psychological project, but still quite modest if placed in the holiday season race.
More notably is the case of "Blood Moon Party 8". Despite possessing a familiar cast and being noticed before its release, the film currently only achieved about 30 billion VND in revenue. In recent days, the work has continuously run out of steam as revenue has decreased sharply, and the number of screenings has also been significantly narrowed.
A similar situation occurred with Duc Thinh's "Trum So". After nearly two weeks of screening, the film only achieved about 15 billion VND in revenue. With the current level of production and promotion costs, this is a difficult figure to help the project recover capital.
The appearance of "Infernal Beauty Salon" with the participation of Ngoc Trinh and Xuan Lan also made the box office race more competitive. The film quickly broke into the top 3 daily revenue only after early screenings.
According to statistics, the total revenue of the April 30 - May 1 film season this year reached about 300 billion VND in the period from April 24 to May 3, down about 15% compared to the same period last year.
Although the market still has big-winning films, the overall picture shows that the appeal of Vietnamese films during this holiday season is no longer as overwhelming as in previous peak seasons. The revenue gap between the leading group and the rest is increasing, while many works quickly lose momentum after just a few days in theaters.
