Up Media reported that the movie "Nguyet Lan Y Ky" starring Cuc Tinh Y, Tang Thuan Hy, Tran Do Linh and Dien Gia Thuy aired 5 episodes on its opening day, quickly becoming the focus of attention of audiences. The film immediately climbed to the top of the hotness chart on the Youku platform in 7 days, proving the attraction from the young stars and eye-catching styling.
However, on Maoyan's Chinese TV drama rankings, the film only ranked 3rd, behind the film that ended "Axis of Jade" as well as the film that aired at the same time "White Sunday Post".
Right from the first episodes, "Nguyet Lan Y Ky" has faced many mixed opinions. Many viewers praised the film for being carefully invested in special effects, camera angles and costumes. However, the plot content is considered inferior, falling into a state of "beautiful but empty".

The biggest minus point of the film lies in the script. The story revolves around the nine-tailed fox Lo Vu Y (played by Cuc Tinh Y) and the characters Vu Thap Quang (played by Tang Thuan Hy), Vu Vong Ngon (played by Tran Do Linh) and Ky Linh (played by Dien Gia Thuy), being drawn into the battle for the power of the Dragon God. The film opens with a series of heart-hugging murders in Lac An citadel, thereby leading to the journey of cooperation - confrontation of the 4 main characters.
However, reducing the number of episodes from 40 to 29 makes many viewers feel that the storyline is disjointed. Characters appear densely, the supporting lines lack close connection, making it difficult for viewers to follow and have to concentrate highly to grasp relationships as well as suggestive details.
Besides the script, director Guo Jingming's image style continues to cause controversy. The abuse of filters and excessive skin smoothing effects has caused many actors to lose their natural facial features.
Typically, male supporting actor Thuong Hoa Sam, previously in the movies "Em Ha Truyen", "Thuy Long Ngam", "Nhat Nien Quan Son" all impressed with his handsome beauty, but in "Nguyet Lan Y Ky", his face was blurred, losing its inherent angularity. Audiences commented that excessive filtering has reduced the eye-catchingness of the actor, even ruining his inherent image.

The acting of the main cast has also not convinced viewers. Cuc Tinh Y, although using her real voice for the first time, is still commented on for being superficial, her voice lacks inner strength, and many expressional scenes are still awkward.
Meanwhile, Dien Gia Thuy, who played many roles such as Ky Linh, Long Than, Man Man, Tich Tam, was also criticized for not clearly showing the difference between the characters. The role of Ky Linh - the character that appeared the most - was commented on for having too "greasy" expressions, often laughing in a ghostly way, causing the interaction scenes with Lo Vu Y to lack empathy, failing to create a chemical reaction with the female lead.
With 3 major limitations in terms of script, image and acting, "Nguyet Lan Y Ky" has not yet met the expectations of the audience, despite possessing a cast of famous young stars and large investments in form. The film is considered beautiful but lacks depth, an impressive opening but not enough to retain viewers for a long time.
