This morning, April 3, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that currently (April 3), cold air in the north with weak intensity is still moving, compressing and pushing a low pressure trough with its axis at about 24 - 26 degrees north latitude to gradually move southward.
Forecast from the evening of April 3rd to early morning of April 4th, due to the influence of cold air compressing low pressure troughs, the Northern region (except Dien Bien, Lai Chau) will have scattered showers and thunderstorms with rainfall from 10 - 20 mm, locally heavy rain over 40 mm.
The meteorological agency warns that thunderstorms are likely to occur with tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind. Localized heavy rain is likely to cause flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides on slopes and flooding in low-lying areas.
Previously, in some recent rains in provinces/cities such as Hanoi, Lao Cai, Phu Tho, Son La, it was recorded that ice rain caused damage to people and property.
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting warns that these phenomena often occur quickly and unexpectedly, which can cause roofs to be blown off, trees to fall, and affect people's lives, production, and lives.
People need to closely monitor weather forecasts, limit going out when there is a storm, and proactively reinforce houses, protect property and vehicles to minimize damage.

According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Hoa - Deputy Head of the Climate Forecasting Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in April, cold air is still active but weak in intensity, mainly compressing a low pressure trough in southern China.
Cold air during the transitional season may cause thunderstorms accompanied by tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind in the Northern region" - Mr. Hoa advised.
Cold air is also likely to cause thunderstorms, tornadoes, strong winds, and large waves affecting the operation of ships and boats in the sea areas of the East Sea.
Previously, in March 2026, there were 2 cold spells on March 3 and March 9. The cold spells mainly caused cold and scattered rain for the Northern region.
