Based on a webtoon (web comic) by Kang Full, “Light Shop” (airing 4.12) tells the story of individuals who are drawn to a mysterious lamp shop run by Won Young (Joo Ji Hoon).
The guests who come here are all unusual in their own way, with characteristics such as dirt constantly falling from their ears, fingernails growing on the back of their hands, or water constantly flowing from their bodies...
The story also takes place simultaneously at a hospital, where nurse Young Ji (Park Bo Young) forms strange connections with people who visit the lamp shop.
According to Kang Full - the man behind the success of the movie "Moving", "Light Shop" will delve into the story of mysterious guests.
“Light Shop has a large cast of characters. In the film, I delved deeper into their personalities and highlighted the relationships between them.
There were parts I couldn't express in the webtoon due to limitations in my drawing ability, but through the actors' performances and the director's vision, I was able to breathe life into what I couldn't fully express in the webtoon.
I believe that fans of the original webtoon will be satisfied with this adaptation,” said Kang Full.
When asked about the new elements introduced in the project, the author explained, “When I was drawing the webtoon, I worked alone, and because of the tight deadline, there were some things I had to sacrifice. I was also young at the time, so there were things I couldn’t express.
“Light Shop” is a work that I have some regrets about. At that time, it was all about conveying the story through drawings, but with film, it's about expressing everything through the screen.
I thought that with the right directors, actors, and crew, I could finally tell the story I wanted to tell. That's why I decided to start this project."
Yohap assessed that “Light Shop” is an important project of Disney+, with the hope of repeating the success of “Moving” that was achieved before.
Kang Full admitted that he felt quite pressured to create a hit work. However, the artist said that with “Light Shop” or “Moving”, each work attracts audiences with its own unique appeal: “Moving is a story about superheroes with superpowers, so this is a genre that is more accessible to audiences.
“Light Shop” is a combination of horror, thriller and romance, bringing a deeper emotional approach. The film has many layers of entertainment and I believe it will resonate deeply with the audience.”
Previously, director Kim Hee Won also had high hopes for the new aspect Joo Ji Hoon will show in the film. He believes the actor will bring something new to the sedentary character - Won Young.
Kang Full commented that Joo Ji Hoon's uniqueness perfectly suited Won Young, and he was very satisfied when watching the first frames from the crew.
