Although it was revealed to be the first work in which Kim Jaejoong (JYJ) challenged himself with comedy acting, and had to show off a lot of his body, the results of "Bad Memory Eraser" were not as expected.
The story revolves around Lee Goon (Kim Jaejoong) - a tennis player who loses confidence after an injury and Kyung Joo Yeon (Jin Se Yeon) - a cold psychologist who is researching a method that can erase bad memories from the brain.
Opening with the motif of first love - enemies in a narrow alley, the film has no new points except for the plot of the male lead having surgery to erase his memory for the purpose of curing his illness. However, because the new project is in the testing phase, the fact that it is being experimented on humans is confusing.
In addition, the fact that the female lead always shows her attitude of not liking Goon but suddenly changes to have feelings for him is criticized as contradictory, or the love line of the supporting couple Lee Shin (Lee Jong Won) - Sae Yan (Yang Hye Ji) also does not give viewers a sense of connection or clear construction.
This is also the reason why the film aired on the weekend (Friday, Saturday) on MBN but the rating was gloomy. Although it opened with a rating of 1.047% and increased to 1.669% in episode 3, the viewership of the film remained mainly below 1%. The lowest rating of the work is currently 0.272% (episode 9).
The only plus point that the audience gave to “Erase the Memory” was the attractive beauty of the four actors. Among them, the male lead Kim Jaejoong, despite being 38 years old, still maintains a youthful, handsome appearance and acts gracefully.
Two other Korean dramas in the same situation as “Erase Memories” are “DNA Lover” and “Cinderella at 2AM”. Of these, “Cinderella at 2AM” is disappointing because after 5 episodes, the drama still hasn’t reached the 1% rating mark. The highest viewership the drama has achieved so far is 0.8% (episode 2).
The film revolves around Seo Joo Won (Moon Sang Min) - the youngest son of a conglomerate, trying to win the love of Ha Yoon Seo (Shin Hyun Bin) - a woman who does not believe in fairy tale endings.
Before airing, the film did not receive many positive responses when Shin Hyun Bin was famous as the "stiff acting beauty" of Korean cinema, or because his co-star Moon Sang Min, 14 years younger, had just failed when acting with his senior Jeon Jong Seo in the romantic comedy "Impossible Marriage" last April.
As expected, when the film aired, Shin Hyun Bin continued to receive criticism about her acting. Her tired face, lack of emphasis in her lines, and stiff acting were also the reasons why she and her co-star could not create chemistry.
Viewers think that the bangs make Shin Hyun Bin look older than his age while Moon Sang Min's face looks too young. This makes the couple's romantic scenes unnatural.
Many viewers also expressed regret for Moon Sang Min when his name was rising thanks to the movie "Under the shadow of the palace", but then he did not choose the right script, always repeating the image of a tycoon, office worker, falling in love with an older female lead... on screen.
“DNA Lover” was also criticized for its bland content. The film revolves around Han So Jin (Jung In Sun) - a genetic researcher who has gone through many failed relationships. When searching for her destined partner through genes, she gets involved in a relationship with obstetrician Shim Yeon Woo (Choi Siwon - Super Junior).
After 7 episodes, the film recorded the highest rating of 1.132% (episode 1) and the lowest of 0.578% (episode 6). The film was criticized for its bland and outdated plot. Even the female lead's outfit and hairstyle were reminiscent of "Pretty Girl" from nearly ten years ago.
