Banning films for actors' private lives is a complicated issue
In recent days, the advertising noise of Miss Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien has caused the audience to pay much attention to the fate of the film "Chot bun" in which Thuy Tien plays the main character. There are opinions opposing the movie "Choa don" being released in theaters because the female lead is involved in a scandal.
However, many viewers believe that a film project is the result of a crew of hundreds of people and requires a large cost, not the effort of an actor. The fate of a film should not be too dependent on the private life of an actor.
Similar controversy occurred with Kim Soo Hyun - a star that Vietnamese audiences have been following for some time. The actor's crisis due to a private scandal has affected the work "Knock-Off" scheduled to be released in the middle of this year. The public storm not only affected individual artists involved in scandals but also surrounded the works they participated in.
In fact, in Vietnam, there is currently no specific or detailed document regulating the suspension of screening or withdrawal of distribution licenses for works with artists who violate ethics and the law. Licensed films are censored through the National Film Review Council and are only banned from being released if they violate the prohibitions in the Cinema Law. In the Cinema Law, the laws mainly revolve around the content of films and the way of distribution, not mentioning the private life and scandals of artists and actors.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has raised the issue of limiting the image of artists involved in private scandals, violating the law, violating ethics, and possibly prohibiting the exhibition of works and stopping the broadcast of works if artists participate in scandals. These proposals are controversial, the producers say that they need them but have clear and detailed regulations in writing to avoid "danger" in film production.
Actress - producer Truong Ngoc Anh expressed her opinion that the application of a ban on broadcasting and film screenings for artists who violate traditional customs, violate ethics, speak - wear offensive clothes... also needs to be clarified, because "violating ethics" and "violating traditional customs" are very general and vague definitions.
What is considered an ethical violation? What kind of speech and dress is considered offensive? How much is enough to wear? What is a pure violation of customs? I think there should be specific and clear regulations, so that artists and filmmakers and producers like us can understand, apply and follow them easily" - producer Truong Ngoc Anh said.
According to producer Truong Ngoc Anh, we should not withdraw the release license of an actor or call for a boycott of an entire film because of the scandal. The work is a collective product, consuming a lot of money and gray matter to create, if it is suddenly postponed or postponed for release, it will be very wasteful.
Finding a balanced solution
In a conversation with Lao Dong reporter, actress La Thanh Huyen once shared: "There are still many cases of artists being unjustly boycotted. Sometimes there are still scandals falling from the sky, artists are affected. We can also eliminate a talent if we do not protect them - in case of being wronged. Artists are also vulnerable to attacks and excessive insulting on social networks. Besides the regulations on fines for artists, is there any law to protect artists?".
This opinion received consensus from many actors. Private scandals and scandals need to be eliminated to clean up showbiz. But sometimes, the noise is like "falling from the sky", "tical or not, it will hit the bullet", if at that time, the artist is having a film released in theaters, just because of the noise "falling from the sky" and the film is banned, postponed... it will be a huge disadvantage for the entire production crew.
Therefore, boycotting or banning a film needs to be fairly recognized by management levels as well as the audience and public opinion. There needs to be a clear distinction of the severity - lightness, seriousness or not seriousness, and an objective assessment of the noise surrounding the artist to make a fair judgment about the work they participate in.
