Chi Dan's real name is Nguyen Trung Hieu, born in 1989 in Kien Giang, grew up in an artistic family with a father who was a musician and a mother who was a singer.
The male singer pursued a professional singing career from 2012 and is famous for his lyrical pop ballad genre.
In the early days of starting a career in Ho Chi Minh City, Chi Dan had to sing in small shows, even sing at weddings with a cat-xe of only 50,000 VND, to maintain his passion for music. Chi Dan used to be a member of the band Hero but was unsuccessful.

The period 2015-2016 was a golden age, he continuously released a series of hits such as "The person I love", "The truth after a promise", "What I know", "Be my wife". In 2017, the song "1234" marked a turning point with a catchy melody, widely covered and the MV reached more than 54 million views on YouTube.
Besides his role as a singer, Chi Dan is also known as a musician with many well-listened compositions, including "Anh muon em song sao" (How do you want me to live).
However, Chi Dan's career also went through many ups and downs. In April 2021, Chi Dan shared that he experienced a deep mental shock when his biological mother passed away, causing the male singer to temporarily stop all artistic activities.
For a long time after that, Chi Dan rarely released new products and limited appearances in entertainment programs and events.

In early April 2023, after a period of being involved in social media scandals, Chi Dan once livestreamed to share with the audience, sending an apology.
However, on November 14, 2024, singer Chi Dan was arrested by Ho Chi Minh City police to investigate the act of organizing the illegal use of drugs.
To date, the People's Procuracy of Ho Chi Minh City has just completed the indictment of the VN10 case, proposing to bring 227 defendants to trial, including Chi Dan, Nguyen Do Truc Phuong and former model Andrea Aybar Carmona.
