By 11 am on April 3, the large fire in the old Nha Trang airport area had been controlled and completely extinguished by functional agencies.
Initial information from functional agencies said that at about 10 am on the same day, the fire broke out in an area with many trees and dry grass. Due to the impact of strong winds, the fire quickly spread, causing difficulties for control.
Immediately after discovering the incident, the Air Force Officer School dispatched 1 fire truck and officers and soldiers to coordinate with the Nha Trang ward's civil defense force to deploy on-site firefighting. At the same time, they reported to the professional fire fighting force.
Upon receiving the news, the Fire and Rescue Police force of Khanh Hoa Provincial Police quickly mobilized 2 specialized fire trucks and officers and soldiers to the scene to participate in firefighting.
After about 1 hour of effort, the fire was controlled and extinguished by the forces, promptly preventing the fire from spreading to nearby residential areas.
To prevent the risk of fire re-outbreak due to strong winds and smoldering embers, functional forces continue to spray water to cool off on a large scale in the area where the fire occurred.
According to initial assessments by functional forces, the fire may have originated from people burning electric wires to get copper cores. Carelessness combined with dry weather and strong winds caused the fire to spread to neighboring areas.
Currently, the official cause of the fire is being further investigated and clarified by functional agencies.
