After more than 40 years of being attached to revolutionary music, Meritorious Artist Cao Minh has had many impressive achievements. Will becoming famous quite early bring you many advantages on your singing path?
- In 1988, while a student at Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music, I received the first prize of the National Concours competition held for the first time in Vietnam (choreography). After that, I won the Best Singer Award for the song about Uncle Ho and folk music.
Achieving many noble awards since I was a student made me very proud. At that time, I promised myself to continue to learn, research and practice to become a professional singer, specializing in singing revolutionary and folk music. I affirm that it is thanks to the awards that I have become more known and successful than today.
When singing revolutionary songs, my strongest emotions are love for the nation, love for the countryside, comrades, and the Fatherland. It is thanks to that love that I am very proud every time I sing my voice high. I feel that every time I sing revolutionary music on stage, I respect and feel grateful.
At first he sang revolutionary music to compete, then became passionate and pursued this music genre until now. But at first, did you think you would orient yourself towards a certain music genre?
- I don't arrange my life to pursue a music. Because for me, as a professional singer, we do not need to choose the music line. Singing music genres, it is natural instincts and a professional artist. I do not agree with the phrase "the artist is suitable for this music and not another music". Therefore, I have won the awards of Opera, auditorium and Dat always singing about folk songs. For music, I consider it a religion. I was thoroughly, greatly in every song, every way to perform in music.
What do you think about the concept of "newly making" revolutionary music to reach young audiences?
- I think not only revolutionary music but also lyrical music has lived through the years. Speaking specifically about revolutionary music, the State is currently trying to preserve traditional revolutionary songs. Because I think that these are high-class works of art, so high-class works will last forever.
Now we have the task of conveying it to young audiences, to understand the history and emotions of our ancestors through art. Similar to the film "The Geography", the setting has passed for many years, but young audiences still find it cheerful.
I don't like to use the word "new" but many people currently use this word to talk about changing a music genre, including revolutionary music. Art is a human feeling, a national culture, art has no old or new concept. "Renewing" revolutionary music is impossible, but if we have enough money, we can add musical instruments or add sub-illustrations to the performances of revolutionary songs.
Besides movies, what does singing mean to you at this stage?
- I also perform regularly and build my own theater to satisfy my passion for music. I consider the theater as a separate space to welcome my loved ones to me. Every week, I regularly perform 2-3 times, feeling sublimated, connecting with the audience very happily.
The sound in the rustic theater, only the piano and some traditional musical instruments. I do not use electronic music because I feel that it makes music lose its soul, and listeners cannot fully enjoy it.
At retirement age, many people choose to settle down, while Meritorious Artist Cao Minh is still enthusiastic about singing and acting in films. Where does this motivation come from?
- Everyone at this age wants to go slowly, choose relaxation, I personally feel young. During the period of strengthening and stopping, I... refused.
Since grade 6, I have known how to raise buffaloes and plow fields, so now I will still "plow" until I can't do it anymore. One day I get old, my last breath is definitely a song like the fate of a "singing farmer".
