According to Hollywood Reporter, on July 20, at an event in San Diego (USA), Mr. Kevin Feige announced a record in front of a large audience at Comic-Con (an annual comic book festival in the US). The 46-year-old chairman of Marvel Studios said that "Avengers: Endgame" earned over 2.789 billion USD - surpassing the old record of "Avatar". The superhero blockbuster is still showing in the US after 13 weeks.
"Thank you to global fans for bringing "Avengers: Endgame" to this historic milestone," said Alan Horn, co-chairman of Disney Studios, Marvel's parent company. He also highly appreciated the value and influence of "Avatar" after 10 years. After acquiring Fox, Disney will release a sequel to "Avatar" - currently directed by James Cameron.
Released at the end of April, "Avengers: Endgame" became a global cultural phenomenon and quickly approached the milestone of Avatar. When the blockbuster lost its appeal in June, Marvel "heated up" the film in many ways such as releasing a new version with a few more scenes, releasing the trailer for " Spider- Man: Far From Home" with the scene of the Rainbow Mourning the Iron Man - the character who sacrificed the last "Avengers: Endgame".
Avatar and Avengers: Endgame set records in two different paths. James Cameron's work is a completely original film (not a sequel or prequel), overwhelmingly thanks to 3D special effects. "Avengers: Endgame" is the 22nd film in the Marvel Cines Universe, concluding the brand's 11-year development journey, and marking the departure of a number of important characters.
In Vietnam, both films are also associated with box office milestones. "Avatar" is the first film to reach the million-dollar mark (about 23 billion VND), while Avengers: Endgame is currently the most popular film in the history of Vietnamese cinema with more than 285 billion VND.
