On the afternoon of August 9, the seminar "People's Teacher, musician Hoang Kieu with the development of stage and Cheo music" took place at the Vietnam Cheo Theater.
The seminar was organized by the Vietnam Musicians Association, the Vietnam Stage Artists Association, the Institute for Research on the Conservation and Development of Ethnic Culture, and the Vietnam Cheo Theater to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of People's Teacher and musician Hoang Kieu.
On this occasion, the Vietnam Cheo Theater organized a performance of the play Quy Van - a classic work with music composed by musician Hoang Kieu. This is also the theater's last play before merging into the Vietnam National Traditional Theater.
Musician Hoang Kieu has been involved in the art of traditional singing theater for more than half a century, has been teaching for over 30 years and is one of the people who has trained most of the musicians, commanders and composers of Cheo music.
Having spent his entire life attached to traditional art, musician Hoang Kieu has left a deep impression on his colleagues, students and those who love Cheo stage art.
The seminar received 20 presentations from experts, researchers, colleagues, students and family of musician Hoang Kieu.
Dr. Tran Dinh Ngon affirmed the role of People's Artist.NS Hoang Kieu in the Cheo stage, including his role as the first person to compose background music for the Cheo: "Musician Hoang Kieu is one of the few musicians who are at the forefront of recording and collecting ancient Cheo melodies from artisans, then researching and compiling them into books.
At the same time, he was also the first person to compose background music for revised and improvised old Cheo plays, as well as some newly themed Cheo plays. The compositions of the above men in the play Suy Van Quoc An, Quan Am Thi Kinh have become a model for the musicians of the younger generation to follow.
In 1980, Hanoi University of Theatre and Cinema was established, People's Artist Hoang Kieu was invited to hold the position of Vice Principal and Head of the Department of Traditional Drama. The Faculty of Traditional Drama began its training career at the university level. The first driver was People's Artist Hoang Kieu.
With the orientation of training suitable for the folk song theater stage during this period and later, Khoa has trained many famous and talented Cheo artists, contributing to the brilliant development of the Cheo stage.

Dr. People's Artist Thanh Ngoan (Director of the Vietnam Traditional Performing Arts Conservation Center) affirmed that People's Artist Hoang Kieu's contribution to the Cheo stage is the pinnacle. People's Artist Thanh Ngoan also had very careful analysis of the contributions of People's Artist.NS Hoang Kieu in Cheo in general, and the play Quy Van in particular.
People's Artist Thanh Ngoan said that when she was young, when she entered the Vietnam Cheo Theater, when she first approached the play Quy Van - she mistakenly thought it was an ancient Cheo play. According to her, the music application of People's Artist.NS Hoang Kieu here has reached a level of smoothness and harmony to every detail - making viewers and actors feel like they are living in a truly traditional Cheo space.
In addition to lectures analyzing the works and contributions of musician Hoang Kieu, his colleagues and students also reviewed stories about the life and personality of a great Cheo artist.
Cheo artist Bich Ngoc - the late wife of People's Artist Hoang Kieu - shared that musician Hoang Kieu is a wonderful husband and father. "In my career, I am always exemplary, strictly up to every small detail; in real life, I am sincere, simple, approachable, never loud, never more or less", Ms. Bich Ngoc said.
People's Artist Tran Quoc Chiem (Chairman of the Hanoi Literature and Arts Association) expressed his respect for his teacher. He always laughed and told me: The Cheo is not just singing, but Cheo is storytelling, Cheo is four deep thoughts... If you dont tell it with your heart, no one will listen.
Daily, close stories, and unforgettable deep memories are told in the seminar, contributing to perfecting the image of the person and personality of People's Artist Hoang Kieu in work and life.
People's teacher, musician Hoang Kieu (1925 - 2005), real name is Ta Khac Ke, from Hung Yen, born in Hanoi. He is a manager, pedagogue, music composer, script composer and outstanding scientific researcher.
The contributions of musician Hoang Kieu to the Cheo stage are expressed in many aspects, from music composition to scriptwriting, direction, scientific research and training of Cheo artists.
