The workshop was attended by representatives of agencies managing and enforcing copyright and related rights; representatives of organizations representing collectives of copyright and related rights in Vietnam; businesses exploiting and using broadcasting programs; staff and reporters from the Department of copyright and from the Institute for Policy Research and Development of Communications, Vietnam Digital Communications Association, Canal+ Group, Vietnam Television, SBS Contents Hub Television, Korea.
In Vietnam, K+ is a pay TV service provider that owns the rights to broadcast the most attractive and valuable sports tournaments on the planet such as the Premier League football tournament, the two leading football tournaments in Europe, the Champions League and Europa League; ATP tennis tournament system...
The above-mentioned rights to major broadcasts also affirm K+'s reputation in the international television market.
Previously, Vietnamese audiences had to suffer disadvantages when they could not watch Europe's two top football leagues, the Champions League and the Europa League, for a period of time due to copyright infringement issues. K+ Television has made efforts to bring these two tournaments to Vietnamese fans from the end of last season to the end of the 2020/2021 season.
At the workshop, Mr. Bui Nguyen Hung - Director of the copyright Department emphasized: "The digital age and the internet have been creating favorable opportunities for us to access literary, artistic and scientific works, recordings, performances, and broadcasting programs easily and conveniently.
However, that also poses challenges to us in how to protect the rights of subjects for literary and artistic works, related rights: Rights of performers, rights of recording and filming producers, especially the rights of broadcast producers and broadcasting organizations.
However, a lucky thing is that Vietnam has a system of legal regulations that meet the requirements for protection of copyright and related rights at the national and international levels.
Vietnam's commitments to join the WTO and international treaties in force in Vietnam have been and are gradually being implemented with results, protecting the rights of citizens and fulfilling legal obligations when using works of citizens and legal entities of member countries.
