Having worked for the company for many years, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngan - a worker at Nha Trang Seafoods Joint Stock Company (Thot Not District, Can Tho City) - has long considered the company's shift meals as home-cooked meals.

“For me, the company’s shift meals are no different from home-cooked meals, nutritious, delicious, and even have more dishes than at home. After each meal, I have more energy to do my job well in the afternoon shift. If I had to spend 25,000 - 30,000 VND at the market, I’m not sure I could buy a nutritious meal like that,” Ms. Ngan shared.

According to Ms. Ngan, buying food from outside can potentially lead to food safety risks. Meanwhile, at the company, the selection of ingredients and cooking processes are carefully carried out by the kitchen department and regularly monitored by the Union Executive Committee. Thanks to that, she and many other workers feel more secure when eating.

Sharing about the company's shift meals, Mr. Pham Hai Anh - a worker at TKG TeaKwang Can Tho Company Limited - enthusiastically said that in addition to being nutritious and tasty, the menu of dishes is very rich and not repetitive.

“The company’s shift meals are as delicious as home-cooked meals, the menu changes every day, ensuring adequate nutrition for workers in each shift. Depending on the morning or evening shift, the menu will have dry or liquid dishes for workers to choose from. The company also has a channel for us to report if we encounter problems with the quality of the meals such as portions, food safety and hygiene...” - Mr. Hai Anh said.

Strict process

Ms. Pham Thanh Thao - Executive Board of the Trade Union of Nha Trang Seafoods Joint Stock Company - said that the menu of the meals is changed daily so that the workers do not get bored. Food safety is always guaranteed. “The input food source is strictly selected, with clear invoices. The kitchen staff are all from the company and not hired from outside; each person is clearly assigned tasks, and complies with hygiene when cooking. A portion of each meal is kept for sampling. When there is feedback on the quality, we will immediately report to the kitchen department to pay attention to improving in the following meals” - Ms. Thao said.

Mr. Nguyen Van Chinh - Director of service quality improvement of Song Hong Tan Company Limited (a food supplier for TKG TeaKwang Can Tho Company Limited) - informed that the company chooses food sources with clear origins, ensuring the standards set by the Ministry of Health.

"When raw materials are imported into the company's central warehouse, there is a QC system to check the input quality, ensuring that they meet the standards to serve the kitchens," said Mr. Chinh.

Regarding the nutritional quality of the meals, Mr. Chinh said that the company's nutrition design department will create a menu and chart to ensure that workers are healthy enough to produce.

According to the Can Tho City Labor Federation, the city currently has 186 units supporting shift meals for workers. Enterprises organize shift meals for workers in many forms such as organizing their own collective kitchens, contracting with contractors to cook right in the company's kitchen... In recent times, the city's Labor Unions at all levels have increased dialogue and negotiation with employers to improve quality, provide shift meals that ensure nutrition and safety, and ensure the health of workers.
