The US technology company specializing in developing AI-powered autonomous driving systems for trucks, commercial vehicles and military vehicles - Kodiak AI and the US defense company - General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) have just announced a partnership to develop a new generation autonomous military vehicle using AI.
According to the agreement, Kodiak AI will provide Kodiak Driver (AI-based automated virtual driving system), while GDLS is responsible for integrating the vehicle platform, electrical system, communication and completing overall military equipment.
The two companies said that the goal of the project is to build expandable, flexible and adaptable self-propelled capabilities for many types of military vehicles as well as various combat missions.
This technology is oriented for future military programs of the US military and international customers.
The CEO of Kodiak AI - Mr. Don Burnette - said that the cooperation will help meet the increasing demand for self-propelled ground vehicles capable of operating in complex warfare environments, while minimizing the risk to frontline soldiers.
According to Mr. Burnette, the strength of GDLS in developing and integrating military vehicles helps Kodiak's self-driving technology to be quickly deployed on many different platforms.
The new project continues the previous cooperation between the two companies in the Leonidas and Epirus autonomous vehicle development program. This model combines Kodiak's autonomous technology kit with the Ford F-600 commercial chassis and Leonidas microwave weapon system to create a mobile anti-unmanned aerial vehicle platform.
The Leonidas system is designed to provide the army with the ability to deploy weapons flexibly, can operate remotely or automatically in many different combat conditions. This vehicle can operate in both fixed defense missions and expeditionary operations.
GDLS said that Kodiak's self-driving technology effectively complements GDLS's military vehicle development capabilities. This combination helps create flexible platforms that can be quickly adjusted to meet modern combat needs.
The cooperation between Kodiak AI and GDLS reflects an increasingly clear trend in the global defense industry, where AI and self-driving technology are becoming an important factor in the military modernization strategy.
Unmanned vehicles are expected to help reduce human losses, increase combat effectiveness and expand operational capabilities on the future battlefield.
