Turkey introduces KMG556CL machine gun weighing 5.6 kg, maximum rate of fire 900 rounds/minute, aimed at mobile combat.

At the Enforce Tac 2026 exhibition, the Turkish defense company KALEKALIP introduced the KMG556CL light machine gun, caliber 5.56x45mm, weighing only 5.6 kg and with a selective rate of fire from 750 to 900 rounds/minute.

KMG556CL is designed with a 10.5-inch (26.7cm) long barrel, suitable for close-range combat missions and environments requiring high mobility.

According to the manufacturer, despite its compact size, this weapon still achieves a muzzle velocity of about 800 m/s, ensuring fire control at short and medium ranges.

The effective range of the KMG556CL reaches about 400m for point targets and up to 600m for regional targets. The gun can use a magazine of 50, 100 or 200 rounds, as well as a soft magazine, helping the unit flexibly adjust to task requirements.

Compared to the predecessor KMG556 version weighing about 7.8 kg, the CL model has significantly reduced weight. This is considered an important factor for soldiers operating in urban areas, on motorized vehicles or helicopters, where the weight of equipment directly affects mobility.

According to KALEKALIP, KMG556CL targets special forces, armored personnel, helicopter units and border patrols.

The integrated design has a side-folded swingarm, a vertical front handle and a stand, allowing for quick transitions between movement and stable firing.

The gun is equipped with standard rails to attach scopes and accessories. The barrel can be quickly removed and reassembled, supporting barrel replacement during continuous firing.

The two-handed control system helps soldiers who are right-handed or left-handed to use it easily.

The launch of KMG556CL shows the trend of prioritizing light, high-speed and flexible weapons, meeting modern combat requirements.
