Hundreds of constructions, roads, bridges and culverts were destroyed by floods
By the afternoon of November 23, the floodwaters in Gia Lai province had receded, revealing the scene of extravagance and desolation. From the streets, houses to the countryside are flooded with mud, soil, and waste after the historic flood.
The flood caused severe damage to people, houses, property, trees, crops, canals, dams and many production facilities of people and businesses.

Preliminary statistics show that the whole province has more than 19,200 houses flooded over 1.5m deep, many areas have water levels rising from 2-3m, isolating a large area. Gia Lai recorded 7 deaths during the flood (Quy Nhon Dong ward 5 people, Quy Nhon Bac ward 1 person and Tuy Phuoc commune 1 person); 1 person died due to landslide (Quy Nhon ward) and 2 people were injured.
Floods damaged 500 small bridges, culverts, drainage culverts; 170 traffic routes; 353 urban construction works, with total estimated damage of more than 1,000 billion VND.

Faced with the great damage, Gia Lai province has deployed emergency support to help people soon stabilize their lives, from providing food, supporting house repairs, mobilizing forces to clean up, opening roads, and restoring essential infrastructure.
The province also recommended that the Government support 2 tons of Chloramine B and 100,000 Aquatabs to treat the environment; at the same time, it proposed to issue specific policies to support businesses that have suffered losses such as extending, postponing, reducing tax fees; credit incentives, debt suspension, interest support to restore production and business.
The dike was broken by floodwaters, water surrounded the villagers in a state of stagnation
The recent flood caused many overflow routes such as Dien Bien Phu, DT60 (Doi Thong bridge section - old Cat Chanh commune), Long Van intersection, Ong Tho intersection... to be deeply flooded; some locations were seriously damaged by landslides. Many dykes, embankments, and canals in the area were also collapsed.

In Tuy Phuoc commune, the dike in Van Hoi 1 village was broken by flood about 90m, the concrete surface was broken, and trees fell. Meanwhile, the Luat Le dyke broke a 30m section, isolating 660 households with more than 2,500 people and causing many properties to be swept away.
Mr. Nguyen Van Vinh (62 years old, hamlet 3, Van Hoi 1 village) said that this flood was stronger than the flood in 2009, the water rose too quickly, leaving people unable to react.

"The dike broke during the day, so people managed to escape, fortunately no one was injured. But the house was deeply flooded, the furniture was severely damaged, and the car had sunk before it could be moved to a higher place," Mr. Vinh shared.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Chanh (43 years old, residing in Luat Le village) said that in the flooded area, people in the village always take turns visiting Luat Le dike every time the water is high, to prevent unexpected incidents.
"At around 9am on November 18, I went to check around and saw that the dike had begun to erode, so I immediately ran back to report the news, shouted that the villagers were ready to go up high and evacuate. At 3 - 4am on November 19, the dike was broken by floodwaters, water from the Ha Thanh River overflowed into the entire village, sweeping away many properties," said Mr. Chanh.

The entire family and relatives of Mr. Chanh, consisting of 13 people, had to temporarily take shelter in the hanging hall of only about 10 square meters. It was not until 12 noon on November 19 that the rescue team arrived and brought everyone out safely. "The water was all over my head, all my belongings were broken, and the ducks and chickens also followed the flood and were swept away," Mr. Chanh said sadly.
According to Ms. Le Thi Vinh Huong - Secretary of Tuy Phuoc Commune Party Committee, the Van Hoi 1 dike breach location is far from residential areas, with many trees blocking the water flow, so there were no human casualties. A family of 4 was flooded by deep water and was promptly rescued by authorities using ropes.
Before the Van Hoi 1 dike was damaged by floodwaters on the morning of November 19, the police and military forces mobilized sand transport vehicles to reinforce it, but the water was too strong and could not be held.
Regarding the Luat Luoi dike incident, the locality is compiling damage statistics and implementing support according to the province's policy.
