In the recent rainy and flood days, the story of Major Nguyen Khac Thinh - an ship and electricity officer of the 2nd Border Guard Squadron (Gia Lai Provincial Border Guard) - bravely saving people on the flood peak, made many people admire.
At noon on November 19, Major Thinh was mobilized by the unit to participate in rescuing people isolated in Quarter 6, Quy Nhon Dong Ward. The flood water is currently rising and flowing rapidly, making it extremely difficult to reach households who are struggling to reach the flood peak.

Many areas were deeply flooded, the entrance to people's houses was full of obstacles, making it difficult for canoes to access. Without hesitation, Major Thinh and his teammates tied ropes to him, jumped into the water to pull the canoe close to the house of the people, and saved him.
"At that time, I just thought of how to quickly get people out of the flooded area, because there were many people trapped inside," Major Thinh shared.

While rescuing the people, Major Thinh unfortunately stepped on a sharp object in the water, tearing his left foot deep. Suppressing the pain, he used a shirt to temporarily tie the wound and continued to save people. When the wound became too severe, the working group carried him to the gathering place, in the midst of heavy rain, gusts of wind and immense floodwaters.
According to Gia Lai Central General Hospital, Major Thinh injured his left foot, suspected of having a rupture of the tendons of the fingers 3, 4, and 5. Doctors have performed surgery to treat the wound.
Lieutenant Colonel Le Hong Tuan - Deputy Chief of Staff of the Gia Lai Provincial Border Guard, who directly commanded the rescue force - said that during floods, the entire force had to take advantage of every minute and every second to reach the people. The water rose rapidly, the flow was strong, many places were more dangerous than expected, but no officers or soldiers hesitated.
"Each officer and soldier jumped into the rushing water, carrying each elderly person, and carrying each young child onto a canoe. Comrade Thinh, despite being seriously injured, still suppressed the pain to continue saving people. That is the quality and bravery of Uncle Ho's soldiers," Lieutenant Colonel Tuan shared.
Major Thinh's brave action once again affirmed the spirit of "as long as the people are still on duty", inspiring courage and dedication in the midst of difficult rainy and flood days.
