The current situation of cyber violence is alarming
Recently, the Police of Pho Yen City, Thai Nguyen Province prosecuted and detained 6 people for spreading depraved cultural products in the case of "Samsung girl infecting 16 people with HIV" in Thai Nguyen.
This is a timely move to protect citizens from cyber violence incidents that have occurred in our country recently. There are many other cases that the authorities cannot (or do not have enough legal basis) to punish, such as the collective attacks on Miss Y Nhi, the case of Diep Lam Anh and her ex-husband, or the disputes over the beauty queen Y Nhi. recent controversy over ethnic costumes on a television drama.
These incidents expose the ugly reality of the Internet environment in Vietnam. In a discussion about online behavioral culture, communications expert Le Quoc Vinh said: "The negative consequences of social networks are the "collective stoning" of which I myself was a victim. During the period of promoting the fight against fake news during the COVID-19 pandemic, I was attacked. Many unrelated people like my mother were also attacked by netizens on their personal pages to curse."
Journalist Truong Anh Ngoc said: "I am probably one of the people who is attacked the most online. The strange thing is that there are people who in real life can be very gentle, but online they seem to turn into a different person: aggressive, extreme, conservative, intolerant, ready to attack any opinion contrary to theirs. ”.
According to the Digital Civility Index Report published by Microsoft, Vietnam is in the top 5 countries with the lowest online civility ranking in the world for 4 reasons: The habit of "asking for links" ” Sensitive clips happen very often, becoming an inevitable part of online culture in Vietnam; Personal attacks and insults with harsh words; The action is "council"; Attacking people who are not on the same "frequency".
There needs to be a synchronous corrective solution
According to writer Di Li - author of the book "Vietnamese Bad Habits", the reason why the Internet environment in Vietnam has become toxic is because Vietnamese people from a young age are not taught and practiced debate methods: " Having worked in the education industry for more than 20 years, what I feel most clearly about my students is their weak critical thinking and very low logic when debating. That is the weakness of Vietnamese people because until the beginning of the 21st century, only very few schools in Vietnam taught the subject "critical thinking". That's why many online articles and online comments are initially critical, then turn to arguing, slandering, humiliating each other, and even swearing."
Anonymity on social networks makes cyber violence worse. In terms of consequences, not only are the targets of the attacks affected, but the Internet environment in general also becomes toxic. The Internet environment and real-life environment have an interaction with each other, the real-life environment affects online discussions, and vice versa, negative emotions online also make many people view society. full of negativity, increasing feelings of depression and anxiety. Not to mention, deviant behaviors and negative role models, if imitated, will leave many consequences.
Journalist Truong Anh Ngoc commented that in recent times, the authorities have responded quickly and promptly, but more positive voices need to be raised, and victims of cyber violence need to come forward. have a stronger voice, and at the same time the community needs to stand beside the victims.
Journalist Truong Anh Ngoc also believes that each individual should train themselves not to be affected by trends and attacks on social networks: "I myself have trained my ability to be immune to negative standards." extreme on social networks. Nowadays, going online is like having a second life besides our physical life."
From an educational perspective, writer Di Li said, it is necessary to introduce subjects about critical thinking and control into teaching early, because not only thinking but also attitude when criticizing is also very important. Helps both sides' minds be calm, alert, lucid, patient and polite.
