On August 27, news from Can Tho City General Hospital said that the hospital received a difficult case in rhinoplasty due to deformation. That is a male patient, named NVN (born 1953, Thoi Lai district, Can Tho) hospitalized because he was bitten by a dog and lost his entire right nostril.
The patient said that late on August 23, as soon as he opened the door to his house, a neighbor's dog attacked him. Immediately, the family transferred the patient to the emergency hospital.
Doctors from Can Tho City General Hospital performed first aid on the wound and gave rabies shots. After that, the patient was taken to the Ear, Nose and Throat department for plastic surgery.
Through clinical and paraclinical examination, the Ear, Nose and Throat specialist determined that the right wing of the nose was completely missing, the open wound was complicated, and the nose structure needed to be restored. If left for too long, it will lead to severe deformity as well as widespread infection, causing loss of aesthetics in the nose and face.
The surgical team includes BSCKII. Nguyen Thanh Van - Head of Department of Ear, Nose and Throat and Doctor of Medicine. Nguyen Dang Trinh decided to use septal cartilage and ear cartilage to regenerate alar cartilage because the patient lost all major alar cartilage. The team carefully calculated the length and width of the nostrils to create a suitable flap. At the same time, the nasolabial flap was rotated to regenerate the skin on both sides of the nostrils, and stitches to reshape the nostril contour.
The plastic surgery lasted 180 minutes. The patient's nose now has a rosy skin flap, ensuring function and aesthetics after surgery.
