Limit night commuting due to fog
National Highway 24 is a vital traffic route connecting the Central Highlands region with the Central coast, increasing traffic volume. Especially after merging provinces and arranging administrative units.
This road connecting Quang Ngai and Kon Tum is becoming crowded, with many vehicles passing by. In which, Mang Den tourist area also contributes to increasing the daily traffic volume. However, this road poses many risks of traffic unsafety due to the winding mountainous terrain, many sharp curves, fog and limited visibility, especially at Mang Den Pass and Vi O Lac Pass. Functional agencies recommend that drivers need to be vigilant, slow down and carefully check their vehicles before traveling through dangerous mountain passes.
During the recent holiday, many serious accidents occurred on National Highway 24, causing many casualties. Typically, at about 11:40 PM on May 2nd, at Km58+800, at the foot of Vi O Lac pass in Ba Vi commune, Quang Ngai province, a truck with license plate 47H-010. 39 traveling in the West - East direction suddenly lost control, crashed into a taluy and overturned.
The accident killed 2 people and seriously injured 1 person trapped in the cabin. Functional forces mobilized many officers, soldiers and specialized vehicles to travel more than 60km of mountain pass overnight to organize rescue.
Check the brake system, tires
Previously, on the evening of April 29, at Km132+100 National Highway 24, passing through Kon Braih commune, a chain collision occurred between a motorbike, a passenger car, a car and three-wheeled vehicles parked on the roadside. The consequence was 1 death, 1 seriously injured, and many vehicles damaged.
According to functional agencies, the main causes of accidents stem from improper parking, lack of observation, and loss of control of speed when traveling through steep mountainous areas with limited visibility.
Functional forces warn that rudimentary vehicles, self-made three-wheeled vehicles without license plates, lacking traffic lights or parked on the road at night pose a very high risk of accidents. Motorcycle drivers need to slow down, pay attention to observation, keep a safe distance and proactively handle unexpected situations.
For truck and passenger car drivers when passing Vi O Lac Pass and Mang Den Pass, it is necessary to carefully check the braking system, steering and tires before the journey; absolutely do not drive the vehicle when tired, sleepy or after drinking alcohol.
Traffic participants should not stop or park in sharp bends, out of sight or narrow roads. In case they are forced to stop, they need to turn on warning lights and place warning objects from afar to ensure safety for vehicles traveling behind.
The Traffic Police Department of Quang Ngai Provincial Police recommends that drivers when traveling on National Highway 24 should always maintain safe speed, focus on observing and strictly comply with traffic regulations to prevent unfortunate accidents on dangerous mountain passes.
