On the afternoon of November 13, Mr. Tran Minh Giang - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tri Ton district (An Giang province) - said that the district leaders are directly urging the functional forces to make efforts to handle the scene of the accident that broke the iron bridge in half in Vinh Phuoc commune in order to promptly deploy the construction of the temporary bridge tomorrow morning.
According to initial information, Doan Duc Vinh (born in 1996, residing in Vinh Thanh district, Can Tho city) drove a truck with license plate 68C-112.10 transporting bricks for hire from Binh Duong province to Giang Thanh border gate (Kien Giang province) to deliver goods to Cambodia.
When reaching Vinh Phuoc commune, the truck passed through T6 bridge, the middle span collapsed, causing the truck to fall into T6 canal.
At the time of the collapse of the T6 bridge span, only the truck was moving on the bridge. Upon checking the scene, the authorities determined that the cause of the collapse was due to the bridge being overloaded.
It is known that the T6 bridge has a permitted load of 5 tons. Meanwhile, the load capacity of the truck alone is 19 tons, carrying about 30 tons of bricks.
Immediately after the incident, Tri Ton district leaders were present at the scene to direct the handling and resolution of the incident. At the same time, they assigned the relevant authorities to investigate and handle the case.
Mr. Giang also said that because this is a bridge on the main axis leading to the center of Vinh Phuoc commune, the locality will urgently clean up the scene and build a temporary bridge to serve the travel needs of the people. The temporary bridge is expected to be about 5m away from the collapsed bridge.
