Despite the no-entry sign
The pedestrian road and Nhu Y river embankment are about 1.6km long, stretching from Dap Da to Van Duong bridge, passing through Thuan Hoa and Vy Da wards (Hue City). The project has a total investment of more than 267 billion VND, invested in granite pavement.
After being put into use, the road becomes a public space attracting people and tourists to walk, exercise, and sightsee. However, motor vehicles still appear on the route even though there are no cars or motorbikes allowed at the entrances.
According to records, motorbikes regularly drive into pedestrian streets, especially areas with homestays and cafes. Some vehicles are used to pick up and drop off passengers or serve business activities.
The space for pedestrians is also affected when some business households place tables and chairs, and put up tarpaulins in the common area. The walkway is thus narrowed, while motorbikes moving in crowded areas pose a potential safety risk.
Mr. Vo Duc Dung (resident of Hue City) said that this situation needs to be rectified to ensure the correct function of the road. According to him, the frequent circulation of motorbikes on granite paved roads can also affect the quality of the project in the long term.
The situation of motor vehicles entering the route was previously reported by Lao Dong Newspaper in March 2026. However, this situation continued to recur afterwards.
After functional forces drastically intervened, preventing the situation of vehicles continuing to enter the pedestrian path, reporters still caught some people still freely driving vehicles in and out of the area.
Strengthen inspection and handling
According to Mr. Phan Luong Bang - Vice Chairman of Thuan Hoa Ward People's Committee, the locality has directed functional forces to strengthen inspection, remind and handle cases of vehicles circulating on roads not in accordance with regulations.
From the beginning of August, the Police coordinated with the Ward Public Service Center to organize patrols and inspections on the route. Through this, functional forces discovered, reminded and handled cases of driving motorbikes into pedestrian paths.
Regarding encroaching business activities, some tables, chairs, and tarpaulins were also temporarily seized. Functional forces at the same time propagated and requested people and business households to comply with signs, not to bring cars, motorbikes, and electric vehicles into the route and not to use public space for business, causing obstruction to the walkway.
According to Mr. Bang, Thuan Hoa ward is studying a plan to exploit the road according to the development orientation of night streets. This idea has been agreed upon by Hue City People's Committee to continue researching.
The locality is developing a specific plan, and working with relevant departments and branches to be guided on the organizational form and investment plan before completion, reporting to Hue City People's Committee for consideration.
