On May 5 and 6, 2026, a forest fire occurred in Co To commune, An Giang province in the area of the Provincial Forestry Department. Hundreds of officers and soldiers were mobilized to quickly control the fire to prevent it from spreading to other areas.
According to reports, the fire broke out at noon on May 5 in the Tan Duc hamlet area, Co To commune. Upon receiving the news, functional forces quickly mobilized nearly 300 officers and soldiers from various forces including the Provincial Military Command, Provincial Fire and Rescue Police Department, Commune Military Commands, Forest Management Board, Forest Protection Department, Forestry Farm Management Board, and 40 fire fighting equipment to coordinate and deploy many fire fighting measures.
By the afternoon of May 5, the fire was basically under control.

On the night of May 5 and morning of May 6, hundreds of officers and soldiers still stretched themselves to stick to the scene. Many officers had to work overnight, taking turns approaching the fire points, digging, and watering to prevent the fire from rekindling.

It is estimated that the affected area is about 4 hectares, mainly vegetation, vines and fire underground; no damage to cajeput forest recorded and no casualties.
Currently, the cause of the fire is being further investigated and clarified by functional agencies.
