Regarding the fire incident at Cai Lay 220kV Transformer Station (managed and operated by Power Transmission Company 4 under EVNNPT) causing widespread power outages in many areas of Long An and Tien Giang provinces on the evening of August 31, on the afternoon of September 1, the Southern Power Corporation issued an official document informing about the cause of the incident and the results of the remedial work.
According to the Southern Power Corporation, the fire at the Cai Lay 220kV transformer station that caused power outages in many areas of Long An and Tien Giang provinces was initially determined by local authorities to be caused by lightning striking the Cai Lay 220kV transformer, causing a failure of the 110kV transformer of the Cai Lay 220kV transformer. At the time of the incident, the area was experiencing heavy rain and thunderstorms.
Immediately after the incident, throughout the night of August 31, Southern Power Corporation and its member units, Long An Power Company and Tien Giang Power Company, coordinated with units under Power Transmission Company 4 to immediately implement a solution to transfer power overnight, in rainy and windy weather conditions to quickly fix the incident and restore power to each area for affected customers in the two provinces of Long An and Tien Giang.
By 4:00 p.m. on September 1, all customers affected by the incident had normal power supply restored.
Southern Power Corporation would like to apologize to customers for the objective incident that interrupted power supply and hopes to receive sympathy.
Previously, as Lao Dong reported, at 9:27 p.m. on August 31, an incident at the Cai Lay 220kV transformer station (managed and operated by Power Transmission Company 4) caused a power outage on the 110kV line 174 Cai Lay - 171 Tan Thanh, the 110kV transformer stations Thanh Hoa, Moc Hoa and Vinh Hung; causing sudden power outages in the districts of Dong Thap Muoi region of Long An province.
The incident caused a power outage in the entire districts of Thanh Hoa, Tan Thanh, Moc Hoa, Vinh Hung and Kien Tuong town, as well as the entire communes of Hung Ha, Thanh Hung, Hung Dien, Hung Dien B, Vinh Buu, Vinh Dai, Vinh Loi and Vinh Thanh; part of Tan Hung town and part of Hung Thanh and Vinh Chau A communes (Tan Hung district) and part of Long Thuan, Long Thanh and Tan Long communes (Thu Thua district, Long An province). In addition, it also caused a power outage in many areas of Cai Lay town (Tien Giang province).
The fire prevention and rescue force of Tien Giang Provincial Police coordinated with the Cai Lay Town Police (Tien Giang Province) to urgently go to the scene to carry out fire fighting measures.
Immediately after the incident, Long An Power Company focused resources to urgently restore power supply in the following areas: Thu Thua district; part of Tan Hung town, Vinh Thanh, Vinh Loi, Vinh Chau A communes (Tan Hung district); part of Tan Dong, Tan Tay, Tan Hiep, Thuy Dong communes (Thanh Hoa district). Tien Giang Power Company also coordinated with Power Transmission Company 4 and related units to urgently transfer medium voltage sources (taken from Cai Be and My Tho city) to supply power to Cai Lay.
However, due to the problem at the Cai Lay 220kV transformer station not being resolved, as of September 1, there were still power outages in some areas, including: the entire districts of Tan Thanh, Moc Hoa, Vinh Hung and Kien Tuong town; a part of Vinh Thanh, Vinh Chau A, Vinh Loi communes, Tan Hung town (Tan Hung district); Thanh Phuoc, Thanh An, Thuan Binh communes and a part of Thuy Tay, Tan Tay communes, Thanh Hoa town (Thanh Hoa district).
