On August 5, the Lai Chau Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board coordinated with the Contractor Consortium headed by Deo Ca Group to organize the opening ceremony of Hoang Lien tunnel, belonging to the road tunnel project through Hoang Lien pass connecting Lai Chau and Lao Cai provinces.
At the ceremony, the first drill bit was deployed at the tunnel entrance, marking the transition from the preparation phase to the construction of the most important item of the project.
The event is considered a milestone marking the beginning of the construction process of a modern road tunnel through the Hoang Lien range.
The project has a total investment of about 3,300 billion VND from the central budget, Lai Chau provincial budget and other legal capital sources.
The road is 8.6km long, of which the main tunnel is about 2.5km long, including two parallel tunnel pipes, each pipe arranged with two lanes for motorized vehicles, design speed of 80km/h.
The project is invested in a synchronous system of access roads, bridges, lighting, ventilation, fire prevention and fighting and traffic monitoring.
When completed, Hoang Lien tunnel will contribute to replacing dangerous road sections on O Quy Ho pass, improving traffic safety, and shortening travel time between Lai Chau and Lao Cai.
At the same time, the project creates motivation to promote regional linkages, develop tourism, logistics and trade in goods, contributing to completing the strategic transport infrastructure of the Northwest region.
