On July 9, Mr. Ha Quang Trung - Chairman of Lai Chau Provincial People's Committee and the working delegation inspected the scene and chaired a working session on the implementation of the Road Tunnel Project through Hoang Lien Pass, connecting Sa Pa ward (Lao Cai province) with Binh Lu commune (Lai Chau province).
The project is a special-grade road traffic project (group A), with a total investment of 3,300 billion VND from the central budget, provincial budget and other legal capital sources.
The road is about 8.8km long, of which the main tunnel is 2.63km long and the auxiliary tunnel is 2.65km long.
The project is implemented in the 2023-2027 period, expected to create momentum for socio-economic development, tourism and strengthen traffic connectivity in the Northwest region.
According to the Lai Chau Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board, Lai Chau province has basically completed the compensation and site clearance work and handed it over to the construction unit.

However, the project still faces many difficulties due to rugged terrain, complex geology, heavy rain, prolonged fog, along with fluctuations in fuel prices and a shortage of skilled labor.
In addition, the handover of land from Lao Cai province is still slow compared to the plan, affecting the overall progress of the project.
At the working session, departments, branches, investors and contractors reported on progress, analyzed difficulties and obstacles in site clearance, technical infrastructure relocation, construction organization and proposed solutions to accelerate implementation progress.
Concluding the working session, Chairman of Lai Chau Provincial People's Committee Ha Quang Trung affirmed that the Road Tunnel Project through Hoang Lien Pass is a key project, of strategic significance for the development of transport infrastructure of the province.
The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested the investor to develop a detailed construction plan for each item, review the progress of each bidding package, mobilize maximum manpower and equipment, organize overtime and shift increases to compensate for progress, and at the same time strictly handle units that are behind schedule due to subjective reasons.
The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also assigned departments, branches, and localities to continue to coordinate to remove obstacles in site clearance, accelerate compensation work, relocate technical infrastructure and strengthen working with Lao Cai province to soon complete site handover, creating conditions for synchronous implementation of project items.
